And what is more important, is current owners of *.com, etc will sue anyone getting *.shop *.web, etc. It's the Nissan.com thing all over again. So companies will steal, ahem, use the legal system, to take control and protect "their" Trademarks. And it means more domains Network Solutions can extort money from you, to protect yourself from some jerk putting a porn site on yourcompany.tv etc like nasa.com. Its a joke.
Please use the new Real-Time TRS-X-OS-80! Imagine, the power of mach, the micro-kernel, freed of resource hogging servers. Other systems downgrade mach by adding on extras, I doubt you'll ever need. Instantly, you can learn how to use the entire system with the intuitive Aqua-Velva user interface. Forget bewulf, we can add 2 or 3 extra Z2000 processors, for real speed. Imagine a processor dedicated to managing keyboard input, or screen output, data entry has never been this fast before. Also extra modules mean you can also run programs written for the 68000 cpu made so popular in our original model 16! Re-use those powerful Xenix programs, don't throw them away! What we have here is a powerful new operating system with the added benifits of being able to take advantage of the huge pre-existing TRS80 cassette-tape software library, and the tens of thousands of TRS-80 developers. OS/2 developers will be thrilled with our powerful OS/2 cross-development SDK!! Watch out IBM, we just might steal that market away from you!!
Hey I'd pay money* to have the guy he mailed it to forward it to me. That would be the closest thing to a historical artifact generated via the ether we depend so much on.
This shows how pointless all the extra TLDs are. Because every fuckheaded, lawyer-infested company with a domain is going to sue to take over that name in each of the toplevel domains.
Again so what, that would be exactly the same situation as now, except they would have to piss away billions on converting the whole company from their crap to linux. The real, free linux would continue to grow, while microsoft slowly dies.
And who would buy it? Even moronic windows lusers are not stupid enough to buy a 199$ linux CD from microsoft, when they can get the exact same thing from lsl or cheapbytes for 1 stinking dollar, (plus shipping)!
How can they leverage the work of others? If they wait until the linux desktop is appropriate for the typical win98/ME endluser, then exactly what do they to entice people to buy it from them? Their brandname? By then the Microsoft name would then stand for a company who swindled billions from people for poorly designed software, that they eventually abandoned.
If they add somekind of windows "layer" to run windows apps, then who cares, it would be the same as now, where the stupid pay for the "comfort" of microsoft. Businesses, power users, etc) would use the real linux and have little or no need for any of the services microsoft could provide. I mean they have the worst customer support infrastructure ever, and somehow they're supposed to transform that into a linux services/support organization I would be willing to pay for?
It would just make the final move to pure linux just that much easier, as people using it can't help being exposed to to the linux underneath the hood. So microsft is left in a ghetto of home pc lusers.
Ha Ha Ha, you poor spanish fools! The internet is a vast conspiracy created by native american secret agents to destroy the evil spainish hugemony. We covertly infiltrated the American government, schools and military, and we used their resources to create a tool to destroy you with. HA HA HA! Prepare for the cultural destruction you evil colonizers so richly deserve!!! HA HA HA!!! Take that Christopher Columbus!!! Get bent Hernando DeSoto! New Spain my ass!
Have you ever used apt and dpkg? Then you'd know what you're saying is untrue.

Get a grip. Take 2 seconds to read the help file dselect displays and you would understand it. You just see tons of software and get confused... "oh take me back redhat guy, I'm sorry for ever doubting you, and please install 900megs of crap I wont ever use or understand, but at least I'll never have to think about it. It scared me!!! using the arrow keys to scroll up and down, then using the minus key to de-select software I dont want or need, or using the + key to add new software. Its so hard!! Oh gosh, and those dependancies, gee that's hard, I mean, its confusing that to run foo I need to install foolib? dont even mention those confusing descriptions, full of technical computer jargon and whatnot......"
If it is so bad, how about at least describing what a suitable replacement would look like? But your replacement had better run on a serial terminal or a basic VGA display.

I've got all the GPL'd office "productivity" suites I'll ever need. All of these stupid shrinkwraped boxes people seem to value either contain something to counteract some huge screw up of Microsoft's (virus scanning software, the entire norton catalog, etc...) or some badly written resume writer or junky recipe db, except for a few of the games its just a bunch of worthless crap.
The fact is real programs come via apt-get. The junk comes shrinkwrapped.
No its not. Exactly where is this Apache Gopher Server they wish for? Will any of the currently existing gopher servers run on anything more recent then os/2 warp 3? Or are you wanting to bring that back as well. Seriously though: Gopher is no better than the web, a shitty gopher site is as bad as a crappy webpage. Are all of these moronic Microsoft-laden WYSIWYG wizards currently making most websites, suddenly going to become thoughtfull, standards compliant gopher-site coders? Yeah right!!
Incorporating graphics into the navigational/design aspects of site *is* a valid thing to do. Maybe sometimes it is not needed, (and wireless is certainly a great example of this*) but then just don't use it. I think UI design issues should not become part of a networking protocol. I vastly prefer html, where I can format my information with much greater freedom.
* Of course that ignores the fact that wireless displays will become better and bandwidth will increase.....

What do you mean, if such a cluster were to topple over, millions could die, crushed under the weight of thousands of 8bit processors.
Clearly you have not thought through the implications of a beowulf cluster of these things!!
