    Ummm, you do realize that hibernation has been a feature of Windows since 98, right? That is unless they've completely overhauled how it's done. Since this is MS we're talking about, I highly doubt that...

    Actually, they'd better get cracking on some HDMI swithcers and HDMI-switching capable amplifiers...

    Several companies are already making these. Here's one I came across. Of course, the price could stand to come down quite a bit...

    If it's an HDCP DVI port, it's compatible with HDMI. You just need a $20 cable adapter.

    I assume you will be using this with the plethora of original HD content you have produced yourself? If not, the only thing this gets you is the ability to store an entire season (or two or three) of a show in H.264/DivX/XviD/whatever format on a single disc. Then there's always the assumption that it will have the appropriate codec to play it (well, it'll definitely do H.264). I'm sure that more rampant piracy is exactly what they media producers want.

    While I admit that the 2600 version of PacMan was halfway decent for the time (especially considering the hardware, etc), the point was that they manufactured more cartridges than there were even machines that could play it.

    By this reasoning, Pac-Man and ET were the most popular and best-selling Atari 2600 games ever produced. I think most of us know what the truth is about those two, though.

    Just further shows that the "editors" don't even "get" their roles as editors. Attributing words that weren't written to the submitter is not something they should be doing. Or if they do, they should use the standard square brackets to indicate that those words weren't said, but were what was implied. Changing the title is fine. Adding additional commentary or extra sources (as Zonk did with the 'From the ZDNet article' bit) is fine. Putting words in people's mouths is a HUGE editorial no-no.

    I'm guessing you missed the part where the blog entry linked in the summary that advocates the use of this unofficial patch is titled "Trustworthy Computing".

    It's a thing called sarcasm. MS are the ones pushing "trustworthy computing" but are showing that at a time like this, they can't be trusted to do the right thing.

    I guess you wouldn't classify slashdot as a news aggregator site then, would you? If it did use RSS for it's stories then that could be an excuse for the dupes, but that's not the case. (And yes, I'm aware that the sidebars are RSS based, but I rarely use those). Maybe my wording wasn't too clear, but the sites that I use are based on humans approving stories.
