as per TFA, they say that the "discussed" it and it appears to be so. Thats all well and good but it just sounds like a bunch of physcsists hanging round shooting the breeze. My question is Where is the math to come to this. i didn't see any mention of it, unless someone else saw it.
last night i opened my cupboard door and i swear to god, a coackaroach looked at me, grinned and then suddently vanished!! WTF, i wanna know how they do that!
First let me say i really liked your post and agreed with your first four paragraphs. The one on QM, simply because you didn't state how that one came to be studied or developed via some natural observation.
That being said I mostly agree with your point that much of physics came about as a result of looking at certain phenomenon in nature. However, these needed equations in mathematics to explain this. Mathematics came about as well by observing nature ex: the shapes and spaces in geometry, assigning quantitative values to objects in simple arithmatic. From these Fields mathematicians realised they could use mathemaitcs in a more abstract concept independant of the object itself. As a result, algebara came about and became the engine of mathematics, geometry expanded to topology etc...now we even have function analysis from simple calculus
My point is that mathematics, the proof needed to explain much of physics, came from something that was first observable and then later became abstract independant of the phenomenon in nature. String Theory is the evolution of that. We know enough math - it says - to know that this and that works and the equation should come to this answer. Therefore if the math is correct then the phenomenon must be correct though we have not or cannot see it with current technology.
doesn't mean it cannot be seen as our technology or mathematics improve, it just means its unprovable or disprovable right now. We've simply reversed our approach to look at string theory by going by the numbers first. If ST is right - more importantly if the numbers are right. it has some serious implications. it'll require a paradigm shift and i still belive not many people are prepared for that.

does it even matter? keep sitting there debating who did what to cause the effect. The outcome is still the same. There is hard empirical data to support the effects regardless of the cause. DO SOMETHING!
It Certainly appears to be a failing of the u.s. doesn't it.
What I find most intriguing about this new development of the u.s. is that it comes days after north korea said they were planning on testing a intercontinental nuclear missle
I'm sure many in the good ol u.s of A will disagree but unlike iran, north korea will not just back down because the u.s says stop producing weapons they really don't give two shits about the u.s. and the states knows this. In fact when it comes to North Korea i honestly think the u.s is scared.
Every other country they seem to have a disagreement with they just run it and shove their way down their throat! why not North Korea? because the u.s knows it doesn't have the capabilities right now, it knows its army is tired and scattered all over the four corners of the earth in god knows what secret missions it doesn't want the people to know and will probably be for national security reasons if they do find out
The united states really needs to clean up its act and try some serious diplomacy, rome didn't last forever and neither will they. China is coming up and the u.s. is gonna need to realize the world isn't the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA its earth and we all live here.
truth. the only thing i'm worried about is that as a canadian, we're gonna get stuck in the middle of any warfare those idiots down south cause.
Get a good book on C and learn it. I suggest the books by stephen prata C primer plus. its in its fifth edition. IMHO, C is the mother of All invention. well at least on the software side. Serioulsy its a really good book.
What is Python?
Python is the really neat computer programming thingy, based heavily on Monty Python's Flying Circus, which was invented by those really funny guys, Monty Python. Lucky for them it was called Monty Python's Flying Circus, because it would have been really inconvenient and confusing if it were called John Howard's Flying Circus, or something like that.
i really hate when programmers try to be funny. this article is asinine. Programming isn't a joke and telling a novice how to program and introducing all that sperflous crap is only going to confuse them even more. If i'm looking to program that means i want to learn to program, don't piss in my cornflakes and call it milk.
I think this article actually hurts python and i for one am disgusted with it. if you want a good book on programming python get biginning python or even pratical python. both amazing books. I wanna program. teach me to program, this article is bullschildt!
well, its not like other foreign companies didn't invest in the same areas. And with commerce being so global today i wouldn't be surprised if the ipod's components were imported from overseas or just made over there - where they did their own research. Jesus bush! there is nothing new under the sun man. theory of evolution was developed simultaneously, so were binary numbers, the airplanes were being looked into same time the wrights were looking into them and a slew of other inventions and ideas..in fact didn't/. post a story here of some dude who had patented the idea for the ipod way back in the '80's.
Nice comment by bush, but america didn't invent anything, and most of what they did/do is usally done by immigrants who came here. ease up man and go play on the "internets"
*sigh* after reading an article i wish/. would allow us to filter the remarks so say if i only want to read the informative ones then i can. Its really kind of annoying to finish reading the article looking for some insightful comments and just find jokes from less informed point hogs./. is news for nerds and it would be nice if we could discuss something intelligent with the same type of comments and responses. With the emminent destruction global warming and global dimming are going to cause this is a nice article that might offer us some hope that life will continue in some ways we may not have expected.
Too bad i'll have to scroll down the list of comments to find any remotely intelligent comments about it.
And yes I couldn't give a hoot if you guys mod me as a troll. This *ish needs to be said.
"We continue to contend that there was no infringement of any kind and that the facts in this case show that Microsoft developed its own product activation technologies well before z4 Technologies filed for its patent," Microsoft spokesman Jack Evans wrote in an e-mail."
For once i might actually believe Microsoft. These things should not be patentable. As soon as commerce gets into anything it seems to be intent only on ruining that domain at whatever costs. The environment is 0ne primarily and of course technology is the other now
I understand the u.s. patent office was new to technology and its offerings but c'mon there has been so many cases now that are abusurd to say the least; technology is such a intergal part of our daily lives, might it not be prudent to actually put ppl in the patent office who know about technology and the obtuse patents some of these comapanies want to file for?
IMHO its time for them to wake up, filing a patent like this is the biological equivalent of breathing a particular way during a sandstorm or other natural disaster to protect yourself or something. What now theres gonna be a patent police to collect the fees from individuals. This is ridiculous and this madness must end.
please, i think they just get the apple logo/sticker or whatever and just stick it on a regular pc sometimes. I wish is could remember the name of the show where the dude had a "mac" and then proceeded to right click and select - some other BS they did as well. But look out for this, cause its happened more than once i've seen this.
The other day i was mass mailing some fwds like i normally do and my friend who recently got a macbook pro was complaining she couldn't open some of the attachements. some were.wmv and.ppt files and some were.exe i know there is an office for mac's but i wonder how many would just want a web interface instead of paying all those fees for the windows office for mac. and no i didn't read the article its just an idea that came to me when i read the headline.
thats actaully a pretty nice interface, i love the fact they have wikipedia there as a tab cause i use it all the time for indepth discussion on an item that google doesn't have. they should also have webster and sourceforge - really nice thanks for the link and i see you can create custom tabs. NICEEEEE. it might be clusty is my best friend. Thanks

Yeah the point is there is actually somebody living in Nova Scotia canada..
Now thats just cruel!!

maybe sting theory suggest and infinite number of possibilities in a infinite number of sets. sheesh...Keep up! ;)
I feel that way about the JAVA community.

Jesus who runs things over there in the good ol u.s of a?
cause we started all that integrated circuit sh-t
And don't even think about releasing another processor
Cause we don't mind releasing out digital baretta!
boyah!!!
so anybody know if it'll add the curly braces and parenthesis for you. That would be a nice feature having to repeat all that would become annoying.
duh, didn't you get the memo?

which is why the U.S. should relax their immigration policies.

just out of curiousity what is the worlds view on the typical american?
