He seems to be a really big fan of putting everything to the desktop.. which may be just fine, but.. what the hell kinda busy ass background are you going to put up with? and everyone else has already noted that the title for this is terribly misleading. virtually none of these are realsysadmin tool (in the way nc or egrep or tar or ssh are tools).
I'm more worried that it might attract the same sort of crackpots, attention seekers and people who quite obviously shouldn't be doing this type of work (see William Hung or any of the first shows of any season), and not knowing any better people might follow their advice from the show. ala if you have to pick a new password every month, be sure to use something very familiar to you plus a number you can increment. like jimbo1205 for your december 05 password. or use magnets to hold your important backup floppies to your file cabinet, so they won't get lost! and your theory presupposes that people who received Ipods have not a single CD to their name and/or they can not rip those to the player. Or was I misinformed that the itunes product could rip mp3s from CDs?
the feed could be useful to people in terribly light polluted areas (Bay Area, DC and NYC come to mind). It could easily take an hour of driving to get to a point where it's dark enough to see anything (and then it could be difficult to find an appropriate place to stop)
I think wo covered this is a myth class once; Humans have a tendency to think the past was always better. People remeber the good and let the bad slide, somehow.
Isn't part of the problem then trying to sledge hammer in the web technology to fit the older notion of how a newspaper should look? Other sites are reasonably to very well adjusted to being viewed by any browser and while that might leave lots of room for things to be fairly ugly (either you have to have pages that support nothing more than the lowest common denominator... lynx? or you have ot have tons of browser checks and change the page accordingly), it can be done.
That being said, the thing that has always left me the most POed about online news papers is their stupid registration/login/attempts to charge me for content with ads all over it. Baltimore Sun, I'm looking in your direction.

And! you can save money and minimize risk farther.. outsource it to India or China.

I'd suggest the 48 laws of power. I forget the author(s), but I ordered it from amazon. it's possibly the best book I've ever read.
