I consider, or have the view that ooxml and more specifically docx is proprietary. There has been lots of discussions about how ooxml is proprietary and how translations of excel coding are not transparent, therefore closed.
I didn't say that MS forced the US gov to ban IBM, although I wouldn't be surprised if there is a connection like this. In fact, I consciously avoided making that link. http://news.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/04/01/0456250 doesn't suggest that conclusion.
2 blows against IBM in a week may be coincidental, but still smells of rotting fish.

It's a sad time when MS can lobby an international standards group on a closed, propriety format.
IBM, who have been shackled by MS with this vote and now the US government banning them from tendering, must be feeling the pinch.
The only way to fight back in my opinion is to keep using odf and proactively supporting the ODF standard.
Frankly, I don't mind if there are 2 document standards as well as PDF, as long as they are either fully interchangeable.

    Concept of God???
That is a tautology of sorts.
There is always a 'concept of god'
The very act of being self-aware provides the 'concept of god'.
I'll even go further, that atheism the AC claims to have, is really a form of agnosticism being in this interpretation, that the non-existence of god is a concept of replacement.
So what replaces god? Physics? Scientific methodology?
You cannot argue non-existence of god, because we are self-aware. Being self-aware awakens us to hierarchy. Hierarchy of Being always leads to some form of Absolute. Call this absolute God, Universe, Physics, Evolution of Being or whatever. There is always a concept of god.
To be a true atheist is saying that existence is 'godless' - totally and utterly godless. An atheist therefore cannot hate the concept of god.

  19. Mystery Men and PDF on ODF Editor Says ODF Loses If OOXML Does · · Score: 2, Funny

    It's mystery men all over!
What's the point of a superhero if there is no evil overlord?

One should point out that a significant majority of documentation out there is already final and should be non-editable.
PDF is already the defacto standard for this. So presently, OO can easily produce a PDF of a document which can be read by almost anyone. Any MS doc could be converted to PDF by proprietary software. So PDF is the common document format.

It's only when a document has to be edited by a number of collaborators, using different WP and OS that some kind of standard is required. Again, for the most part, the edited document is finalised and can be made into a PDF.

Now practically, typesetting machines can read a text document that is pre-tagged, so it understands font face, size, chapter number, paragraphs, quotes etc etc - and this is all done in plain text. No mystery here at all.
The battle between ODF and docx is the battle between MS and the rest of the world.
ODF should win, simply because it is monopolistic to force anyone to purchase software to view and edit what amounts to be public domain texts.
