    Just do what my school does and make assignments worth 10 - 15% and expect some noise. For a lot of professors, assignments are really only meant to keep the student up to date on the material. The students that rely on WolframAlpha will only end up screwing themselves over.

    I believe they are trying to combine the cores into a single processor at the hardware level, rather than software. This would almost certainly be multiples faster than any optimizations you could make to your code.

    Not at all, it's implimenting better method for administrators to tackle security.

    Question: Where can you find a distro/daemon an admin can't mess up?

    iptables, in this case, can be considered an all purpose tool. Sure, there may be security flaws in it, that is beside the point. The ability to configure a system to your specifications is necessary to provide a truly secure system. Where is the customization on hitting a checkbox to block FTP? When hitting that button, you would in effect, be giving all control /how/ it blocks it. Using iptables gives the administrator more control over the system, versus your option.

    This might be a way to drop all old hardware support by deleting driver, free up some space I suppose. They can't run the OS anyway, so it's possible. What's slashdot's take on this?
