  3. Too much? on Just Let Me Play! · · Score: 1

All I want is fun gameplay with a small initial learning curve but a big hidden backbone that I can explore and master if I choose to.

Example: counter strike. You can just sign on, point and click and kill people. Very intuitive, very simple, don't have to think twice.

But if you want, you can learn to walk, position yourself correctly, count recoil, count ammo, listen for footsteps, learn to flash and nade, and finally strategise the maps and basic movement patterns of players to make yourself more than an average player.

Of course that doesn't mean that when you meet an average player he won't be able to point and click on your head and kill you instantly, but your skill level will probably mean that he won't get to.

It's that simple, the game has been out for how many years now and I still don't find it a bit boring, the replay value is infinite since you're versing other people and every round is completely different. Every player gets the same tools and equipment, and it comes down to how much skill you have with that equipment to how well you do.

"Google says it means "up" in the Okinawan dialect... But their press release says it's from English." I don't think putting "wee-wee" and "up" together in one meaning is the way to go to make him feel better here... That taken aside, it is only natural that the online fanboy community would reveal it's 7 year old humour and poke fun of this. They have to poke fun of something... it's the same thing as the vibrator boomerang PS3 controllers, or the george foreman grill back when Xbox came out... Ignore the little voice in your head that makes you giggle like when someone makes you say "under where" (Hehe... get it?... underw...) and consider the practical uses. After thinking about it for a bit Nintendo We would be a pretty cool name, and Nintendo Wii is basically the same, except for a bit more weird and more playful, which is exactly what they're trying to go for with their console. If you don't like it then shmeh, you're not really in their target audience... but if you're like most people, you giggled a bit when you heard it (for whatever reason) and you remember it, and you're anxiously waiting for more news, even though you have your doubts.

I still have my DC at home and it is actually my only console, and I have to say that the game that is most addictive, by far, and has gotten me the most joy and literally hours upon hours of engaging play is wetrix and wetrix only! It is a clever twist on the game that many of us hold dear to our heart and oh my gawd is it addictive! The first time I picked it up I couldn't put it down for 4 hours, because that is literally how long the runs take. If you have a DC and haven't tried it yet definately get it. The game, in short, is a 3d version of tetris where you use the pieces to build up and tear down walls, sculpting a plane that you are given. Your objective is to create containers to hold the water that is occasionally dropped at you. You also get meteors which evaporate water or punch holes in the surface. You have to keep the water from dripping off. Simple rules, which usually makes the game insanely fun :)

I am originally from Russia, and over there the education system is much more strict than in the USA, namely in that you have no choice or control over your personal advancement. You are placed in a class with 30 kids, and you, and all of those kids, go through a set program of classes, where you have no control over the level of difficulty or direction of study, i.e. Everyone Studies Physics in 5th grade, everyone studies English in second, etc, etc. The difference with the USA schools is that there is plenty of room and possibility for someone willing to advance to do so, from taking honors classes and having a selection of the elective field of study, to even skipping classes through testing, which I quickly took advantage of, and finished AP Calc BC in 10th grade, after which I attended a Stanford-Sponsored program called EPGY, a program for gifted youth which allowed kids to take advanced classes. So, I can see where these news are coming from, the possibilities are certainly there. And these kind of things should not be confused with raising the standarts of mediocrity. They are possibilities, created for those with enough of an intelligence and work ethic to undertake the challenges of participating in the programs.

The Blogging community is an unmonitored, uncensored set of mostly inexperienced inernet users, who utilize the board for a poor excuse of making themselves come off as internet literate and important, while in reality posting exxagurations of edgy an mostly unbased opinion in a quest for cheap attention. Slashdot, or as far as I use it (I just have this on my bookmarks to check on the headlines) is a closely monitored, censored network of experienced internet users, meant to pool together a large information base. The people who post here, while possibly looking for attention, still do so objectively with offering factual information, and providing links to stories in the advancements of the technological world, and have *for the most part* intelligent discussions on the topics... so they are substantially different... now for all I know the forums could fe full of "OMG lookok it like... I fond dis and I think is it teh suck!" threads, but at leas the part that I look at seems to lack the adherent sense of ignorance.
