  1. ET can phone my home finally on You Won't Recognize the Internet in 2020 · · Score: 1

This is the only part I liked: "And they're hoping to build an Internet that extends connectivity to the most remote regions of the world, perhaps to other planets." Extend connectivity, improve performance for all the content, and make it easy to access information with no restrictions, even if you live in another galaxy. It'll be nice to know that when I move to AlphaCentauri, the cable company has the jacks hot-wired with the Internet.

  2. Question of fear in losing Rated R Superhero movie on Why Fear the End of the R-Rated Superhero Movie? · · Score: 1

I want to address the real question here - am I afraid I am not going to get to see Rated R Superhero films?

    No.

The reason I am not afraid is that the whole Watchmen 'failure', as the studios call it, is based on $150 million cost of the movie, and not recouping that cost within the first 3 weeks.

If the studios want to place those type of sales expectations on a graphic novel film that was heavily hyped for 2 years, where their marketing regime was responsible for creating the long runway in which the movie was setup to crash and burn, and then saying that the public isn't ready for Rated R Superhero films, then that's fine for them.

The percentage of the public that had actually read the graphic novel before the movie came out was microscopic, despite the fact that it was touted as 'the most popular graphic novel of all time'. So, the film has to stand on its own for both people who had read it, and a huge number of people who hadn't. Then, there are of course other factors that keep people away from the theater. If they hear there is violence and sex, some people are turned away. If you are below 17, you are automatically turned away. If you typically go to the movies with family, you aren't necessarily going to see this on your own. The reasons people might not have come to the theater to see this go on and on.

The studios might be wiser to wait until the DVD sales are over before they make up their minds about success or failure. If it becomes profitable after the DVD comes out, then maybe they spoke too soon. This may have been the perfect film to start the trend of releasing DVD to stores and film to theater at the same time.

I want to see Superhero films, as well as other kinds of films, in all ratings, and I will get to do that as long as studios don't place unrealistic expectations on these films, and maybe they think about cutting costs on the production of these films so they don't cost so much to make. And please, lessen the hype so that the film can really speak for itself, instead of people having ideas, whether good or bad, about what the film is going to be like before deciding about if they are going into the theater.

  3. Resin is the Cheap Alternative to Plastic on Open-Source 3D Printer Lets Users Make Anything · · Score: 1

Resin 3-D sculptures are the cheap alternative to ceramic, wax and plastic models, and they are stronger, just as light, and don't break as easily. Why can't a replicator be made for home use out of resin ingredients?

  4. Hollywood - Master of Physics Intelligence on Bad Movie Physics Hurt Scientific Understanding · · Score: 2, Insightful

I am sorry - I had to respond to this, because people who honor physics and its importance in the world would have to be smarter than to link Hollywood Movies and a thorough understanding of Physics. If they are not, than I am afraid for our future. If their time is wasted picking apart Die Hard, Speed, and every other Sci-Fi action flick, then who knows what other diversions are using up valuable resources. Hey, guess what, TIE Fighters really wouldn't be able to make that "roaring" sound in Space. Gosh, a lot of people are going to be upset when they take their first tour in Space and realize that it's pretty quiet.

And you wonder why we haven't cured Cancer, or found a way to limit our dependency on oil, or found a way to reverse the severe climate changes in our environment?

Obviously, it is easy to divert attention from what is important, no matter what your level of intelligence.

  5. But Celebrities are doing it... on Social Networking Sites Full of Security Holes · · Score: 1

...Therefore, it must be a safe and smart thing to do. My Manager suggested I create a MySpace account to market myself to a broader audience. Buzz!!! Wrong answer, idiot!

  6. Re:Well... real-life social networks aren't open on It's Time for Social Networks to Open Up · · Score: 1

  7. Re:Sucks to be you, Elton on Elton John Says Internet is Destroying Music · · Score: 1

No, Artists have not stopped playing in Clubs or giving concerts. And I know that was a rhetorical question, but it deserves to be addressed. The problem for the consumer is that they are charging us an arm and a leg to go see them live because they think everybody is trying to steal their music when they sell it in digital form. Before the Internet age, we could see a Major Caliber Artist for 20 bucks. Now, you can't get in for less than 100.

However, even the smaller name artists are taking advantage and charging us 50-100 to see them. It's only going to get worse. The more they charge, the more people will try to get their music off somebody else, instead of paying for it.

  8. Nuclear Annihilation Assured on Bigelow Aerospace Deploys Genesis 2 Space Module · · Score: 1

We have just insured the the cockroaches will live longer than us, if there is a Nuclear War that devastates the Earth. The cockroaches will wait in their space module until it is safe to come back to Earth and take over the world.

  9. Re:I would leave FAST on VeriChip Implants 222 People With RFID · · Score: 1

Good point - so why implant people if we already have it?

  10. What about Magic Johnson? on Man Cures Himself of HIV? · · Score: 1

Y'know, Magic Johnson seems to have found a way to beat it as well. Remember when there was a big Press Conference about him? It's been many, many years since then, and we see him doing fine. Why haven't they looked at him to find out how he has managed to beat it? Or, did he not really have it at all?

  11. Re:I'm sorry on Google DVRs and TV Advertising · · Score: 1

You won't have a choice, as they will probably have a Terms and Conditions statement on the home page that says, "if you are using this website, then you are agreeing to the following...", and it will include keeping track of your habits.

  12. Not updated on Google Maps Graduates · · Score: 1

Does anybody else have a problem with the fact that it is old information, and anything new won't be there for several years? It didn't know there was a Convenience store down the street which has been there awhile.
