    2. 2. Choose peripheral that has driver support for chosen OS.

    IMHO, HP and the like will provide support in the form of drivers for their peripherals if there is a demand for them. Supply and demand - it's how the commercial world operates. If enough Linux users buy the 'X-Scan Super Scanner', then there will be a demand for support and drivers. As usual, It all comes down to money.

    How do you know for sure? What about increased flooding with the melting of the ice caps? Are people not at risk as a result of this?

    this has happened many times before in history and it will happen again. Just b/c we are accelerating it does not mean it is a bad thing.

    Why does this not mean it's a bad thing? Don't you think that reducing emissions, etc., would be a better thing - or do you just think "fsck it, I'm still gonna drive my 10litre, 1 mile to the gallon 4x4 and to hell with the consequences"?

    I agree that the earth will survive pretty much anything that we can throw at it, but IMHO we should be a bit more concsious of the enviornment, just for the sake of our descendants - it doesn't necessarily mean sacrificing too much.

    Maybe there is a market for this with certain disabled conditions. But, I mean, how many times do you hear people complaining "God dammit! My fingers are really hurting from having to apply all that pressure to my keyboard keys. Why doesn't someone invent a zero-pressure keyboard?"

    Another area where SGI hardware is the industry standard is movie/broadcast post production. With the necessary cards, SGI's hardware (Onyx and Octane) are the only boxen that'll give you realtime HD (1920x1080) video editing. Coupled with Discreet's software and ultra-fast HIPPI networking, the post production houses of the world can get their customers in and out quick. Post production houses make an obsene amount of money, charging approximately $1500USD per hour for an Inferno suite, so I guess they can afford the high prices of SGI's hardware.

    I thought the decline of the X-Files started when people realised that every single episode followed the same pattern:
    1. Some kind of alien comits some kind of crime.

    2. No one can figure out what happened.
      Mulder investigates, witnesses the alien in the flesh and solves the case.
      Mulder tells Scully and others.
      No one beleives him, although Scully wants to beleive him.
      Mulder gets suspended for being a fruit-cake.
      The truth is exposed and everyone appologises to Mulder.
      The end.
    Think that about sums it up.

    As we get closer to creating more artificial body parts, the issues of batteries, much like powering laptops for longer times become more critical and the solutions become more intrinsically interesting.

    Well if the robots in The Matrix can power all of their hardware using humans as batteries, can't we harnace enough of that potential energy in one human to power his/her own artificial heart?

    The fact remains that, as I said in my previous post, artists get paid royalty checks, the amount of which depends upon sales of their songs. So, when sales are lost due to people freely distributing music, then the artist will inevitably suffer financial loss.

    Are you, being, as you are, more of an expert than me, refuting this fact?

    Yeah, and, IMO, rightly so when you're sharing other people's stuff.

    The "artists" themselves have become corrupt by the money and fame, their ego blown out of all proportions. It's time they learn what real art and humility is about, not just an ego-trip on- and off-stage.

    Maybe bands like Metallica. Don't get me wrong - I'm all in favour of getting something for nothing, but what about up-coming bands that don't have massive record sales who are losing money because people are distributing their material free of charge?

    Btw, "coz" isn't an English/American word.

    I beleive that there we have a collective, subconscious idea of what's cool and what's not. Whether it be music, clothes, or whatever, we all sort of know when the coolness of something expires. I think we all sort of subconsciously agree on what the next trendy thing will be, it's just that some people are quicker to pick up on the new things and quicker to drop the old things.
