Even if they have to pay out a few hundred million here and there, I'm sure they make a lot more money because of the barriers these patents cause to their opponents.
Slashdot is now part of our classics package which comes with Geocities, ICQ and Reddit is available as part of our social notworking package along with facebook, digg and twitter. Unfortunately Gmail is only available a pay per view service as we couldn't strong arm Google into subsidizing it.
The gaming bandwidth service is not available in your area. We can however sell you our gaming plus package which offers upto 44% lower ping times (*) and a free subscription to Steam.
The total cost of your service will be $71.99 or only $70.49 if you sign a 60 month contract.
More than anything else, I think the H.264 nonsense demonstrates the lock-down that will mark a new era of the software industry.
I hope so. It may break web-pages for a few years but I dont use embedded video much so I wont be too bothered.
What it might do is force changes in the patent system.
I'd like them to declare anything that becomes an ISO standard must be free from patents and licenses. If you cant sue or be sued for an ISO standard it would solve a lot of problems. Then we can let the ISO pick one standard and everyone is free to use it.
Of course, once that defense is used commonly, there'll be a law passed that says you can't do that anymore... In fact, didn't I read something on/. about that in the past?
There was a story about the UK government wanting all WiFi owners to keep records/logs of users. It'll be funny if they ever pass something like this considering how many people in the UK use a ISP provided router like the BT HomeHub with open wifi and a default password.
People who are undecided might wait for the Iphone G4 instead of whichever Android phone is best at the moment.
It lets them gauge market interest in certain features (or missing features) while still allowing them to change the specs because it was just a prototype.
It gets the Iphone more press for something other than the 'its locked down' or 'this app was rejected' stories.
She is good but then it just seems like they've rolled all the past few companions into one.
Day before her wedding (Catherine Tate), probably been a doctor (Martha Jones) and rescued from the 'nice but boring' boyfriend (Rose & Mickey).
I heard they weren't going to use any of the previous companions again. I guess they wont need to now.
I just wish they'd kill off all the pathetic enemies once and for all. Please no more Daleks/Cybermen/Sontarans and all the stuff that got old 40 years ago.
I'm sorry but a pinball plunger, an old typewriter and a decor that looks ripped from a kid TV show just doesn't suit the supposedly alien look of the inside of the TARDIS.
I'm betting the 're-imaging' its getting is so it'll appeal to kids more.
How about a USB pen drive writing port on the cash machine? You stick your pen drive into a USB port, type your pin and it updates your install complete with an optional personal key?
As I said I've not tried but the forums seems to indicate it works out the box (but might need updated firmware files). I bought it to record BBC in HD but theres so little I actually watch that its easier to just bittorrent it.
The same thing happened here in the UK with Sky & Virgin. That was right before a big sports event or something too. Virgin started their own channel after much complaining. All Sky1 shows usually was re-re-re-runs of Stargate anyway.
Life goes on and they all throw out more reality tv.

I remembered seeing a few stories about the BT HomeHub being weak.

Then shouldn't that be the Bbc?
Off the top of my head...

The prisoner said it didn't create them. It teased the doctor because he didn't know who had.
If you buy online in the UK you do have the right to return it.

The BBC streams HD H.264 unencrypted over the air.
They have been trying to get permission to encrypt that too.

Are they making dimmable LED lights yet?
Last time I looked nobody was.
I ended up making my own by using arrays of LEDs.

There are currently no Freesat cards on the market, but I'll grab one when they become available.

I bought one about 6 months ago but never got around to installing it (no dish).
Freesat is unencrypted so I don't have to worry about that.
I think the BBC is planning to encrypt their HD broadcasts. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/sep/29/bbc-hd-encryption

You just type your pin into the keypad.
They'll probably never have to deal with This WAT stuff.
Hmm.. TWAT.. I bet that'll catch on.
