IMHO, Microsoft would have been smart to make Metro Desktop a small series of "tiles" along the bottom (top/side, whatever) of the screen instead of directly scaling it up to full screen. You can still have your weather app and whatnot in a small tile along the edge of the screen and when you click on one of the tiles, it expands it to full screen pushing the other tiles to the edge. You could even provide a virtual hover button in the top right that allows a person to maximize/minimize the tile like Windows currently.
How many people are going to buy it only if a Linux port is available?
Invalid question. The Kickstarter should cover development costs. Sales above and beyond the Kickstarter should be pure profit. You already have N number of customers who have purchased a copy. You MAY get residual sales after that, but if you are counting on them, you'd be an idiot.
Yeah, and with nearly twice the original budget (750K/400K)... you don't think they can find a Linux dev to toss some code around? Even if they pay someone 100K just for this one project, they still have a good 250K above and beyond their original goal/estimate. A few more days and they may even have $1million, leaving them with PLENTY of cash to throw at a community that's biting for games.
Yeah, and... I frankly don't care. If all these developers want me to "pay it forward" (literally) they can "pay it forward" by cross developing the game... so the "least used for gaming" platform may get a foothold.
The Windows Gaming community has plenty of methods for funding games that people want. Donations, Alpha Funding, etc. If they truly want to reboot the gaming community, they'll need to make it as accessible as possible for more than just Windows/Mac. I'm not asking for open source. I'm not asking for every console under the sun. I'm not asking for Alpha or ARM compatibility. I'm just asking for a Linux binary. They asked for $400K and they got it. That's what their estimate was for a Windows game. Now their sitting at almost twice that amount. What's the loss of hiring a good Linux developer to sit in on the meetings and build the game from the ground up as cross platform as possible? They have to "unixify" it for the Mac anyway... it's just a small step from there.
I've pledged for a few, but Shadowrun lost me with this:
As part of our review, we came to the conclusion that feature additions such as a Linux version, Multiplayer PvP, and Cooperative Play are beyond the scope of the project and would cause us to lose focus on the game you reacted to so positively (and the game we really want to make).
It's probably trained to instinct. If they have some catastrophic failure, all you have is instinct to go on... you need to be trained to "do this, this, this, and that." without thinking about it.
I worked at very large shipping company and recently moved to a very small company... both have/are using WebEx and conference bridges for pretty much every meeting.
I've only ever used Skype to talk to my one friend who refuses to use Teamspeak/Ventrilo while gaming because he doesn't know how to change the codec and he thinks they both sound terrible. I've personally never seen Skype used in business.
As far as remote connections into PCs, there are various methods for connecting to RDP/VPN/and VNC that are fully supported in Linux.
Electrolysis tends to eat away at the materials causing you to have to get more. This is fairly closed loop in that the only ingredient is water and heat. Instead of mining zinc for the rectors that will run indefinitely (supposedly) you would have to continuously mine the metals used for electrodes in electrolysis. Cleaning and replacing these parts can be "dirty" where this reactor seems to eliminate that component. The only thing I think you'd have to do with this is grind the zinc back into powder. (as I assume it probably melts and coagulates?)
If he truly is a farmer, it's probably more like jealousy that they didn't pick his field to put it in. My parents are in talks right now to have upwards of 3 mills put on their land. At $12k per mill plus a percentage of energy generated... per year... you can make a nice chunk of income from being picked.
The profit is in return office visits each year. Obviously, you wouldn't go to a surgeon to find out if you need that surgery... because the answer will most likely be, "Yes!"
Interestingly, Canada does not have HFCS replaced for Cane Sugar in EVERYTHING they eat either because of extreme corn subsidies. I'd say that's a pretty huge difference between the cultures. Maybe it's not healthcare that's killing the US, but an extreme overdose of Corn Syrup?
I'm not going so far out on a limb to say it's true, but ignoring just that major differences in foods is a pretty big wave of the hand to say it doesn't matter. I also can't figure out why that is. You'd think that the channels of trade would see Canada having a fairly close ingredient track...
That;s kind of what I was thinking, but mine involved a bit more trouble... as in placing a remote box in your basement (buried under a bunch of crap) with a WiFi link to the server.
Ah... that makes sense. I suppose I read it wrong. I read the question and they said "over a year" and assumed tracking the sun over a year to be daily locations.
It actually doesn't track in the same position every day... it's off by a bit every day. Otherwise we would not have winter/summer months. Some parts of the year the sun is closer to the horizon at noon, other parts of the year it's almost straight overhead. (Of course, it depends on how close you are to the equator.)
I'm sorry (think of me what you will), but I think it's pretty ridiculous. Does anyone else feel like it's parading around a dead carcass?
Put it in a museum and let people come and view it. Doing a series of low level fly-bys of D.C. just sounds juvenile and dangerous.

I can't help but to side with EA on this... if they want to boycott, fine.
I'm sure that's what it is. If you put an exotic title on the ballot, I'm sure more people would vote for you by title alone.

That's why you build new houses around this reactor to channel sunlight into a centralized location in the basement!

Is it irony that the person you responded to uses the name Myopic?
Every American is a terrorist... if you ask those in charge. They just like to paint "outsiders" as terrorists to scare the citizens into control.
It's one thing to compliment a woman. It's another to compliment her accessories.
"You look nice today."
"Your eyes are stunning."
vs.
"Those shoes look great, where did you get them?"
"That purse really matches your outfit."
Which, if I'm not mistaken, are considered Motorcycles (not cars) in just about every state.
A line you can come up with on the spot such as 'I like those shoes/hairdo/etc'...
In most parts of the US it will also get you labelled as effeminate (ie: gay.)
(Just an observation...)

I'm going to invalidate mod points for this, but did you try to use Compact Flash memory cards as hard drives?

It may be cheaper/quieter/cooler/faster than trying to find working 80G disks.
For extra fun: Put a laser pointer on it so when the intruder sees the laser pointing right at them, they start dodging and weaving.
