Couldn't you build a small concrete/metal bunker in your basement (or buried in your backyard) with a mirror set of your data? Sure it's not going to protect against a meteor (in which case you probably won't care anymore...) but you'd be fairly safe from natural "disaster" damage if you build it right. Even flood damage could be mitigated by making the case watertight and using external water cooling with shutdown precautions if water is lost (the line is broke) or power is cut off.
For personal data, I don't think you necessarily have to have cross country backup solutions in case of nuclear events or some other event. You won't care if your data is lost in those cases.
A non-standard extension is being pushed out, that makes the combination of Chrome+Google websites much faster. Google's control of Chrome and Google websites, and those website's dominant position on the web, makes it possible for Google to integrate the two in ways that none of their competitors can.
The plugin is available for Apache servers, and the source code is available for any browser that wants to use it. It's not like ActiveX or.NET extensions. There's no licensing restrictions for using it...
I don't see how you think it's something Microsoft, Mozilla and Opera can't use.
They can still find the diamonds and provide a service to people who only want the "best of the best" of the Internet in any particular area. (See Tosh.0 / Web Soup/et al.) Throw some commercials in there and make the money that way if you can't charge people for them.
Okay, I'll accept the SD storage requirement (wish I had the ability to say, "Here is where you will store your data and this is the only folder you will see" though)... but system logs? The WiFi state change I do not understand. If I wanted it to connect to a WiFi node, I'll turn it on. It should use whatever connection it's told.
System Tools Change Network connectivity, change Wi-Fi state, read system log files, prevent phone from sleeping.
Network communications Full Internet Access
Phone calls Read phone state and identity
Storage Modify/delete SD card contents
Why does a radio app need to be able to turn on/off my wifi? Why does it need to read my system logs? Why does it need to be able to add or delete things from my SD card? (It's streaming music...)
After the coordinates are obtained via a scan or transmission. True lack of anonymity would meant that they know where you are if you steal a stick of gum and they'll teleport you without needing a comm badge to identify that you are the human they are looking for.
It would also mean that instead of questioning Wesley on what he was doing, they'd check his comm badge logs and verify via security cameras all over the ship to track his every move for the past week.
There's very much anonymity in the Star Trek universe.
As far as I'm aware, the Star Trek world is anonymous. There is nothing in any of the shows where they connect to a local satellite and zoom in on someone taking a crap because they know precisely where they are or what they bought at the store.
In fact, I'd say that the ability to sustain oneself through technology would lead to more private lives where people could settle on a distant planet and enjoy whatever they like.
Yeah, and? Sure, it may suck... but if you can't afford something what makes the next guy responsible for you or your mistakes? (Not saying cancer is a mistake... but what if you go jumping off a roof? Do they have to pay for your stupidity?)
I also get tired of the "Oh the humanity!" arguments like the one you just presented. One day you have to realize that people die. You have to be prepared for it. There are simply not enough resources in this world to allow people to be careless with their own health.
In a way, it's true today. If you do nothing wrong you won't have a police record. It's been working out fine... Pushing it to mandatory IDs though is a very... very bad idea.
Control is the only reason I can see for something like this.
Why can't we live our lives in a matter of micro-transactions without everyone knowing what you are doing? I mean, do I really need a global ID to buy a loaf of bread or visit the someone (say, a doctor) and pay them in cash?
The only benefit to IDs are to people getting services from governmental bodies. (ie: so people don't cross the border and obtain medical care on the local citizen's bill.) The more I hear about global/national IDs, the more I hate socialized services because that's the only "valid" reason to have them. If people lived their own lives to the extent that they, as an individual, can afford there would be no need for IDs to make sure you are getting your fair ration.
The US has less gravitational force than Europe... does that mean there are giant cavernous regions below the US?
Maybe it explains why there are more fat people in the US because they don't have to work as hard on a daily basis to keep themselves standing. (/joke)

I think the GP was referring to the fact that the military didn't "own" the reactors. They were on lease from GE(?) from what I heard.
I've loved my Logitech mice/keyboards way more than any MS hardware. (I think there was even a point early on when Logitech made MS mice?)
Also, wouldn't touch a 360, nor the controller.
See my sig. There are some parts of SQL that bug the snot out of me.

Simple solutions to all those: Ask for money up front. Risk is involved in all transactions. Minimize it as much as you are willing to accept.
So, getting cancer, getting in a car accident where you're not responsible, or getting alzheimer is being careless?
I never said that. You are reading too much. However, I did say that you have to accept that you will die. That's the end of my argument with you.

Why do you need to prove who you are? Honestly. What services do you benefit from that require a global ID card?

Not sure if it was "putz and futz" but I got my alert from Chase before anyone else.

The first rule of Ellison's Fight Club is you don't talk about Ellison's Fight Club.
Oh sure... take it out. Make me look like a bigger fool on this day of fools!
You're missing a "wordsuggest" around "complain a whole bunch in the comments while loading banner our banner ads."
Even "die hard" news readers have to take a day off every now and then.
Now when I poke my eye out I can still enjoy 3D!
It's one day to have fun. Relax.
If you are working, how did you get here? o.O
(sorry, the emoticon fit)
