You should elaborate as to why you think this is a bad idea.

Personally I think it's a good idea. Being able to screen for genes that cause cystic fibrosis, Huntington disease, Alzheimer disease, trisomy 13/18/21, etc. would allow no one to suffer from such diseases anymore either through picking different embryos or repairing the diseased gene.

It's certainly better than the crap-shoot that we have now for procreation.

It is technically true. On the other hand, with every new MS operating system, there are always a group of people kicking and screaming about prying the old OS from their dead hands. It happened with Windows 3.1 -> Windows 95, Windows 98/Windows 2000 -> Windows XP, and now it's happening with Windows XP -> Windows Vista.

At least you have the option of downgrading to Windows XP. Do you (not you in particular, but the general "you") think Apple would even allow the purchase of a new Macintosh without the latest version of Mac OS X 10.5.x?

Microsoft makes money of course. But the question is: do they make money on the downgrade? The answer seems to be "no" since it's the computer vendor that is charging for the downgrade. It's right there in the article (even the summary!).

What you're talking about is something completely different.

Are they honestly trying to say that something like Grand Theft Auto would be fun without in game crime, violence, or swearing? Maybe it would be...but that's not the point of GTA. It aims to be violent to create an atmosphere of crime. Just like crime movies and TV shows, Training Day, The Sopranos, also portray violence. It's realistic within the context of portraying criminal behavior with a reasonable creative license.

I think it would just be a different type of fun. Take a look at the The Simpsons Hit & Run game. It uses the same engine as GTA 3 and you more or less do the same thing: do quests, get into cars and drive around, talk to people, etc. However, you can't kill anyone, there's no swearing, etc. And yet, it's still a fun game.
