What are you talking about? The Concorde was one of the biggest money losers for Air France and British Airways. Sure you can fly from New York to London really fast, but you're burning so much more fuel in the process.

Right now, the name of the game is efficiency in terms of passengers and fuel. And fuel efficiency is going up.

No, it's the market and economies of scale. Microsoft did make the original Windows NT run on PowerPC, Alpha, MIPS, etc. the problem was that no one bought those versions because an x86 computer was a lot cheaper than using anything with PPC, Alpha, MIPS, etc.

x86 also has a lot of instructions that take 1 cycle. You can write your assembly programs to use only 1 cycle x86 instructions.

The performance is dramatic actually. My WRT 54g router has a 200 MHz MIPS processor. I put OpenWRT on it, compiled a CPU benchmark, and it ran a magnitude slower than my old Pentium 200. Granted, the MIPS is optimized for energy usage and the Pentium was optimized for performance. But that's what the majority of ARM and MIPS processors are optimized for.

Actually AMD has been doing hardware x86-emulation since the K5. Cyrix started it all, with the 5x86.

Close, but not quite. NexGen was the first with an x86-RISC decoder with their Nx586 processor. The Cyrix 5x86 actually executed x86 instructions directly.

You mean this site? Overall, murders are very rare.

Iowa has more people than Utah and doesn't have such draconian moral restrictions. In fact, they're much more liberal than Utah. Does that mean liberalism has concrete benefits in terms of murder rates?
