  1. Abuse of basic human rights on China Employs Campus Internet Overseers · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Is it me, or am I the only one that sees this as an utter outrage? Why is the world accepting such blatent abuse of freedom of speech? Why is the communist state still in existence?

'tis an interesting read. IMO, we need technologies such as VoIP to help push newer technologies into the mainstream (e.g. faster connections as the norm). Security however, is always going to be a problem when those using the technologies are too ignorant to completely understand its use and flaws.

This is the third posting on this report. We heard you already!! On a more serious note, I find this report to be absolutely correct. Just yesterday a collegue and I were browsing a site looking for captive domains names (after reading the sex.com item). pythagore.com (the French pronounciation and spelling of Pythagoras) has the worst design, look and feel i've seen in a while (the sort of thing that was acceptable pre-2000 and before the boom). With instantly laughed at its design, judging it tacky, ugly and just plain wrong. Now thats DESIGN.

WTF does this have to do with developers?

If 50 milliseconds is the rule, the only saviour for a site is its DESIGN, hence this is a WEB designers problem. What has this got to do with PHP, Servlets, JSPs or back-end functionality (i.e. the job of a DEVELOPER). The only functionality you'll see in 50 milliseconds is how the page loads.............

    Fair enough.

And where are these people going to go once they realise:
a.) There are other alternatives to CDs and that the music they listen to can be obtained and put on a device without the need for CDs
b.) Read of rootkits in the media, being uneducated assuming this is virii or some other form of computer-related crime

Probably to p2p networks. Or, just not buy CDs again. Either way, its still adverse.

  8. Contradictory tactics against file-sharing? on Sony's SunnComm DRM Patch a Security Risk · · Score: 1

Well to me, all this excessive DRM tactics seem to be having an adverse effect on what companies like Sony are actually trying to achieve. In all honesty, what is your average file-sharing fanatic gonna think and do when they read of rootkits and vulnerabilities in CDs they might want to buy?

    I'll tell you.

"Im not buying cds if they're gonna risk the integrity of my PC" and download more songs from their favourite Peer-to-peer network; that's what they'll think and do, respectively.

    Law suit anyone?

  9. Gross misconduct on EFF and Sony Disclose New DRM Security Hole · · Score: 0, Troll

"The EFF and iSEC delayed disclosing the problem until SunnComm could develop a fix"

In my opinion, this is a severe mistake. With all the publicity that this attrocious farse that is the rootkit, was getting, they ran the risk of knowing about a security hole, not letting people know, and allowing millions of users to be vulnerable because of their big bro mentality.
    Its shocking.
