    Well, taking in consideration that:
Parents can even set a lock code that prevents the volume from going above a certain amount
I think it's up to kid / teenager to remember his parents birth dates and try the combinations out of month and day... I'd say that and 0000, 1234 variants cover 90% of the lock codes.

I have a 30G video iPod and in just 4 months I already changed 2 earphones - each one used maximum 30-35 hrs and 90% of the time with the sound level under the middle of the scale.

So I went to the dealer I bought the iPod from and they told me the earphones aren't covered by the Apple warranty program and that it's not their problem.

I'm no audiophile and belive me when I say sound sucks then it really sucks.

The interesting thing tho is that each time the left earbud starts making strange noises. I can hear them first on low frequencies and then in short time it starts making strange noises on anything I listen.

Because it happened in such a short time and each time for the same side I suspect that the iPod might break them - even so the dealer said they can't prove it and I should just buy another set.

And yes I do have some hearing problems but those aren't caused by any earphones...

Anyone had same problems with earphones breaking constantly?

As long as Jenny is available to anyone who wants to try her out, placed on the open market, and comes free of charge, you're absolutely right. Well, provided Jenny has some unique features none of the other girls on the street corner have.

That would stand true for Mary, Alice, Gina, Debbie and so on also... It just seems silly to me to have like 10-20 printed books on each Linux distro... I mean c'mon one can write this kind of books one per day...

And btw... what's so different about Ubuntu? Which are the unique features you're referring to? I bet there are several others distros having them.

I was just pointing out to the marketing scheme behind all these titles... Are ps, ls, cp, mv, less, bash so different on Ubuntu that one needs to write a book about it?

Beside that, can someone recommend a good book about Linux / Unix in general? People ask me for this and frankly I don't know a printed book to recommend to them. For some time I recommended Tannenbaum's "Operating Systems" series.

And I'm still planning to write a book on Gentoo tho - I'll just send all the logs from stage 1 install 'till OpenOffice compile to my publisher.

Remember when you could go home on the weekend and actually enjoy yourself? Sensor management means that you can never be completely away from your cellphone.

Sensor management or no sensor management it's pretty the same thing... instead of the server dialing / paging you there can be a human dialing / paging you anyway. And of course YOU CAN switch off your cell phone if it's bothering...

This reminds me of some time back when I used to tech support for a telco logging system. I was out with my friends BBQ-ing in a weekend when I get this strange phone call (all after some beers and stuff):

Other end: "Hello, there's a mess in here... air conditioning broke up, the heat pipe from the next level is also broken, all the servers room is flooded"

Me: "Who the fuck are you? Where the fuck are you? And what do I have to do with this mess?"

Other end: "We're on [Street Name] and [repeats again the whole thing]"

Me: "And what's on the [Street Name] and what do I have to do with that?"

Other end: "We're at [Street Name] and like I said [repeats the whole thing again]

Me (finally realizing the address matches one of my customers): "Ah... [Firm Name]? And who the hell told you to call me? Am I listed by any chance by mistake in the plumbers section of yellow pages? Did anyone make a joke or something?"

Other end: "Well... I work here and the only contact I could find there or in my contacts list is your phone no... was posted on a sticky on one of the server boxes"

Turns out that in a fucking really big enterprise... no one knew who to call in case of any kind of emergency or something like that... so the poor guy just took a chance with the first phone no he saw. Not his boss, not a guy working there, but me, a contractor for servicing a particular piece of software running on one of the damn boxes... It doesn't matter how many alarms, logging, notifications one sets up as long as there's not a procedure for dealing with it and people don't know who to call for each of them.

I'm still wandering what would have happened if I would just say "OK... I know, I'm just entering the building... I'll take care of that, don't bother"
