This. This is what it is. I run into this all the time with older relatives, my parents, and colleagues (even ones my own age - 27). They don't know so they don't try because they think they might break it. I try to tell them to simply use curiosity, logic, and poke around a bit. If they genuinely can't figure it out after trying they can call me.

The tablet tweaks the devs came out with for CM-supported tablets mirror some features from Honeycomb to make them usable as an actual tablet as opposed to an over-sized Android phone. It runs great and I couldn't ask for more out of a tablet device.

The Call of Duty franchise is the Madden of the FPS world. The games aren't good but you have all these dumbasses that just buy them up every year including all the bullshit DLC. I bought Bad Company 2 thinking it would be a good game. Campaign lasted about 4-5 hours, if that, and ended on a cliffhanger. Did they release a DLC for the campaign mode? Nope, just map packs for online multiplayer and an unrelated expansion pack. Screw these companies that are pumping out what can barely be called a game and relying on the online multiplayer to sell the titles.

  5. Re:Nook Color vs. Kindle on Amazon To Let Libraries Lend Kindle Books · · Score: 0

I have both a Kindle and a Nook Color. Reading on the NC is a pain in the ass since it's backlit, I can't read for more than an hour before my eyes start yelling at me. The original Nook had too much going on with it. I do, however, love using the NC as a greatly priced Android tablet. Its hardware is top notch, easily rooted, and you can load CyanogenMod 7 on it fairly easily once rooted (ROM Manager). It's easily the best spec'd, priced, and build quality Android tablets in the sub-$300 range and can compete with higher priced devices. Frankly, it's a tablet device and not an e-reader.

My Kindle is used for reading. The e-ink display allows me to read for hours on end with as little eye strain as possible and without having to charge the battery. The original Nook has an e-ink display too. Between the Kindle and the Nook comes personal preference and price, really. I don't often go to the library to worry about the lack of ePub support. I download books online in the Mobi format or convert from ePub to Mobi using Calibre (great book management program, btw). Very simple process and pretty much a non-issue.

The biggest problem with the PSN store is that there's no price deprecation for PSP titles (PSX and mini-games have their own pricing scheme). You will pay full price for a 5 year old title and, frankly, that's a bit ridiculous. If the titles were rare titles, sure it'd be worth it than hunting it down on eBay at a premium but for yearly schlock like Madden and shit? Screw that!

Not so much better to justify an additional expense of the bluray player, possibly an HDTV, and cables. Most people are dumb enough to buy cables that cost >$10. My 22" Vizio can output 1080p and cost $220 but there's barely a noticeable difference between Netflix HD content at 720p or 1080p and normal high quality content upscaled to those resolutions. Netflix-enabled devices are becoming vastly more accessible from both a long-term and short-term cost perspective - $100 for a new AppleTV that's a tiny little box or their Xbox 360/Wii/PS3 that they use or their kids use plus a paltry $8/mo for all the content they could ask for and more. Consider that the noticeable difference between DVD, Netflix HD/upscaled, and BluRay just ain't there for most people and they don't have to shell $20-40 for titles. To 99% of the consuming population, BluRay is just another useless medium put out by Sony. Streaming and DVD content is good enough and it is much more accessible.

Really, using a desktop OS on a tablet is cumbersome at best. Using Anroid or iOS or some kind of OS designed to use a touch-screen interface as well as accept bluetooth HID input would be the best bet for a tablet. Include in the packaging ( on the tablet itself) a kickstand or stand of some kind would be good, as well. Using a Tegra chipset and Android Honeycomb would probably be the easiest and cheapest entry into the tablet games, preferably with full Market access in a WiFi-only model. The design of the Wii clasic controller would be the best form factor for a small bluetooth controller. Hell, under CM7 and using an app from the Market, you can already do that. I do it on my rooted Nook Color on CM7 w/ tablet tweaks.

Isn't wanting to be prorated for a single day of outage just a little on the absurd side?

Personally, I'd choose Sprint over Verizon. Verizon loves to nickel and dime you for everything. You can take the monicker of "there's an app for that" and change it to "there's a fee for that" for any feature you'd want on your phone plan. Want GPS? Fee. Want Exchange ActiveSync/"Enterprise Mail"? Fee. Want plain ol' data? Fee. Plus their family plans are atrocious and don't really have competitive pricing. The only thing they seem to lump into single plans is voice, text, and MMS whereas everything else is a separate add-on. Between Sprint and Verizon you'll easily be paying $15-30 more a month on Verizon than you would Sprint for the same features (not including discounts on either carrier). Sprint just lumps everything (literally everything) into a single price and their service & support have gotten oodles better in the last couple years (they've even gotten awards for it). Their phone selection has gotten leaps and bounds better since I've been with them as well. Some of the best Android phones in the market are on Sprint. Just don't ever buy a Samsung (unless it's the Nexus S, which hits Sprint soon).

Been a happy customer on Sprint since 2006. Before Sprint I was on Cingular right before they were bought by AT&T. Would not go back or even switch to Big Red.

Actually, you're wrong. The Blues (Blizzard forum CMs) have stated in many instances that so long as there is user interaction to perform an action using an input device, that input can go to one or more game clients. That's why they allow multi-boxing, among several other reasons. The key factor is the user interaction. Any automated actions lacking any kind of user input are deemed as botting. Programmable keyboards and mice only count as botting in the instance of "use A if available, otherwise use B" simply because there was only user interaction for one of the actions. As long as there is a button press for each action, it's okay even across multiple game clients on a single or several PCs. You can also check to see if an ability is available to use using the !Spell syntax (must be the exact name of the spell including spaces). For activated/proc'd abilities like Rune Strike or Hammer of Wrath, it will use those spells if they are available along with anything else in the macro, GCDs willing. You can also reset a macro in a certain amount of time measured in seconds (reset=x) followed by the contents of the macro. The Lua language that addons and macros use is fairly robust for in-game actions.

Simple solution is for ISPs and telecoms to become public utilities with uncapped services but with a pricing model reflecting today's internet services - pay a little, get a little (as in $10/mo = 3MB line, no bandwidth cap) and pay a lot, get a lot and others in the middle.
