Does the Apple switch to Intel really mean anything to a virus writer? I thought it was Microsoft's crap software [IE, Outlook Express, Windows] and their associated APIs that the were the real targets? Its not like VBScript is going to run on a Mac just because the chip is a Core Duo.
It seemed to me that CD sales went down during the recession. Then the record labels jerky moves just alienated fans. Now there are other means to get music (legally and illegally) and so CD sales will probably never rebound to where they were. Also, music is so disposable these days. Even the indie stuff is stale after a season. I think maybe there needs to be a new genre to shake everything up. A disruptive musical genre. I'll tell you what: American Idol has to be the solution!
I think those with complaints about the price are just thinking about what they would spend. The right price is what people will pay for it. And I guarantee someone paid $149 for a new PS2 console yesterday. In fact, thousands probably did. So $129 is just the new price that Sony thinks will spur MORE sales. I think anyone who has waited this long for a PS2 should thank the 101 million other people who bought them before today because that is why the price is where its at today. Its good for the industry to have this price reduction.
And about the PS3, it would be great if it came out at $299, but its not likely because the components will probably cost more like $375 at first, so the right price is again what people will pay for it (which will be set by where Sony decides to price it anyways...) Now lets step back and be honest for a minute, if the PS3 came out at $199 would you jump up and down and get excited and run out and buy one or would you just say '$199! It must be crap!' I think this is the connundrum Nintendo is in after the last console round. Part of me wants to see the Revolution come in at $299 just so people won't complain that its price is an indicator that its no good.
2) Value is shifting from ownership to experiences
so I meant to say "These business folks are AMAZING." Now I feel really badly because I just lowered the level of experience for some slashdotters, thus bringing down the value of slashdot and the entire web... Sorry!
...so we have just come to realize that the power of a network is that there are people on the network. WOW. These business folks a AMAZING. Sounds like they are trying to wrap an internet on top of the internet. The problem I see with the community thing is that it will bulk out and become crap just like 80% of the internet is crap.
that the people posting to this don't even have iPods... This is a great feature to make up for a different 'feature' that Apple should never have shipped in the first place. The single biggest problem I have with the iPod is that the default function fo the wheel while music is playing is to control the volume. So if you forget for a second that you aren't navigating a menu, you tend to turn the volume ALL THE WAY UP. That is quite annoying. Honestly, I think the volume control should be buried beneath a click to the center button...
The most frustrating thing is that this update is only for current iPods (minus the shuffle.) Guess I gotta upgrade (just like if I want to run Java 1.5 apps...)
Man, this guys is going to RUE the day he said this. I am not saying its easy to distinguish what the next big thing will be, but it will eventually come and this tidbit, his quote, is going to look hilarious. Recall Gates saying 'No one will need more than 637 kb of memory for a personal computer' or whatever.
How is this new, other than MSFT stepping in to screw it up? Check out www.oqo.com. I have been looking at them for going on 2 years now. Oh, and they DO have a keyboard...
I'd like to see a powerbook run BootCamp!

Reducing costs is right. They will reduce costs, I am sure. Just don't expect any reductions in price.
