The FCC can regulate communication originating, terminating, or traversing in the United States (from my understanding).
Keep in mind VOIP is not always COMPLETELY over the internet, at some point the connection traverses to the actual phone lines (although sometimes it crosses over to it earlier or later than the house level).
I'll be anxious to see this.
That's not completely true, the QWERTY setup was in part setup so that typewriter salesman could quickly and efficiently type "TYPEWRITER" (take a look at the letters, all in the top row).
It's a serious question. By definition the FCC is a governmental agency and any fines and/or enactments are subject to a hearing and the people affected have the oppurtunity to fight the FCC in front of a court.
However, the problem companies and people run into is that the FCC holds the power to remove their licenses and abilities to do what is core to their business.
I know someone will say this is stupid, but Howard Stern is a good example. The FCC levied extensive fines against The Howard Stern Show, and when the broadcasters planned their court appearances the FCC told them if they fought the fines they would revoke their broadcasting licenses indefinately.
The salary potentials that are mentioned on this article are for AAA titles only, your D3s Q4s etc etc. A lot of game programmers and developers start on indie games making very little if anything until they are spotted.
Don't get me wrong, the gaming industry is wonderful, but I've seen plenty friend's enter the Indie game scene thinking they will get discovered and 5 years later they are still making models on a game noone has heard of and working at Home Depot to make money.

But to add to your comment. Should we focus on integrating devices and be happy with it or integrate and microsize it before we release it?
My fear is that, someday, we'll have a all-in-one device and it'll be the size of my head! Cell phone, av output, video, camera, gps etc etc etc.
If manufacturers race to increase capability without decreasing size and and other aesthetic appeals we won't be any farther than we are right now.
Kinda get what I'm saying?

We wouldn't want to watch a full-length movie on this iPod
How many years ago was TV created, and how long after that was their Color. People improve ideas, the video ipod doesn't seem to be marketed as a "Buy me and you'll never need a tv again". I really don't think it will become people's primary mode of entertainment.
Of course then again.... how big is the PSP screen? I'm sure it's much bigger but by how much? And they are still able to mass sell DVD's made only for the PVP.

Anything and everything may cause adverse problems in any given person. Take lactose intolerance. Just because one thing is determined to be harmful to most people doesn't mean it's harmful to all. How many people were exposed to Asbestos? How many people have mesothelioma, not all of them I will guarentee you that.
Does that mean those people got lucky or that they aren't susceptible to the disease. You make the call.
But doesn't limiting your open source licenses seem kind of counter productive?
It seems Microsoft's initiative is more of a way to get their name out there as "Those guys that did that" rather than to actually commit a change in the way things are done.
Except for the price concern. Not all people need the functionality of a laptop and would rather spend a grand less and get a cheap portable DVD player.....

So I ask you, what can be done to combat the FCC?
This is definately a good move, both for ID and for the linux community.
U.S. President George W. Bush signed on to the change in August as part of a massive energy bill.

Or else you wouldn't be able to post blatant worthless material just so you'd be a first poster?
