For a while I had a friend who would sell his powerbook every year and buy a new one. It cost him about $200 every time (as in his sale went for $200 less then the one he bought), but every time he did it he also got an OS upgrade (which was about $99 by itself) along with a hardware upgrade (faster proc, built in airport, more RAM, etc.). That was pretty damn cost efficient
FA says that the new process produces chips with run hotter. If the G5 was running to cold to fit in a Powerbook, the new chip will fix that. And Apple will be kicking themselves.
Please tell me you have that completely ass backwards. The G5 was WAY too hot to put in a powerbook (requiring both water cooling and fans in the G5).
Did you buy that UID on eBay? I want to say you must be new here but something about my UID being an order of magnitude higher than yours prevents me from following through.
I was thinking about the same. I saw Smartbomb in my live bookmark and clicked on it thinking it was about Russia's new missile technology or something involving smart bombs, and was very disappointed to see it was a book review.
I should stick to using the front page instead of RSS, for I have that set up to ignore book reviews.
I see what you mean, but the sources made it clear that homosexuality was a crime that was punished in the middle ages, and frowned on by the church before that. So I think people were identified by it the same way a witchcraft, murderer, theif, or any other crime was labelled. Theivery existed, and theives were called theives. Homosexuality existed, and homosexuals were called homosexuals. You have to announce what a person is guilty of before you light the stake on fire.
Umm... last time I looked into it child baring used to be very dangerous for the mother, with mothers commonly dying in the process. Today it is still dangerious, but less so because of C-sections.
You're one of those damn people who doesn't seed, aren't you? Upload should be approximately 1.2 times the total download, in an ideal world (the extra 20% is to cover disconnects and seeds that drop offline)
You need to work on your ideal world. In my ideal world there would be no dropped seeds or disconnects.
This seems odd to me, because the reason I always stick to photoshop is I can easily figure out how to do any funtion I know exists. It seems everything is logically placed in menus, and there are keyboard shortcuts for everything. I also love the fact there are usually about 5 ways to do any given act.
I would have thought more people would have noticed the Earth is round sooner, the curve is clearly visible from most mountaintops
I've never understood this argument. I mean in the way past you would be familiar with hills, and familiar with mountains, familiar with valleys, and other such features. One would not be too familiar with globes, and any planets one is aware of appear to be flat discs in the sky. Wouldn't it be more logical to blame the curve on such things as hills or valleys, which are known things, then conclude a globe, which isn't well known?
That game in your sig looks super sweet. I am downloading it now, and looking forward to playing it. Good luck with the progress on it and I hope to give some input.
I know this, but the parent was talking about how other utilities (water, electricity, and gas) are already tiered, and I was pointing out that the internet is tiered the same way too. I was pointing out how his new tiering is unlike the other utilities.
I don't know about you, but the internet I get is tiered the same way as the utilities you listed. I can pay $10 a month for dial up, $25 a month for slow DSL, $40 a month for fast DSL (using the exact same lines as the slow one, just capped higher), $50 a month for faster DSL or cable (again same lines for DSL) or go to the high tier can get a T-1 buried to my house and pay god knows how much a month.
I thought this was one of the best reasons to have a credit/debit card. Get mugged? Well they only walked away with what cash was in the wallet, and you never need much in your wallet except when you are planning on making a large purchase or many purchases in cash.
They do this with drug busts all the time. They won't say how they got tipped off, or figured out who, when, or what to search so that people using the same method won't change their methods for a while - hopefully with the result being more busts.
it's better at (most often graphics) it really isn't
There is nothing that can do 2D graphics as well as, and with the stability of, an Apple computer. If there is ever a linux version of photoshop I may change my mind, but as it is right now Apple has the stability of Linux with the office offering of Windows. Also when it comes to film editing Apple is the way to go (not rendering farms, but Final Cut Pro/Pinnacle Studio/Adobe Premiere type work).
So you admire her because she's rich and has convinced weak minded people to take her seriously?
I never said I admired her. Additionally I never said I admired her for being rich or for manipulating weak minded people. The GP asked why people look to Oprah rather then the three figures I addressed, so I responded with why people look to Oprah, nothing more and nothing less.
Dude, the fact that you think Oprah is "nice" or "cares about people" means you've bought into a carefully controlled media face that she puts on to fool people as gullible as you.
Where did I refer to Oprah as nice or caring? I don't see either of those words in my post. I've never thought of any media mogul of nice or caring (hell I thought the word mogul carried negative connotations, I don't know if I've ever heard it used where a mogul seemed like a good thing).
Of the original list provided, I think Winnie the Pooh is more real than the public face she presents
My only problem with this is I never addressed her public image, let alone the truthfulness of it. That and Oprah deffintely is a mass of matter that conforms to the laws of physics, while Pooh does not (and has many times broke the laws of physics to get honey from a tree with a single balloon lifting him).
even though you seem to be willing to devalue your opinion against hers
How did you come to that conclusion? Where did I ever state that I agree with Oprah, or that I value her opinion? I give her credit for increasing the literacy of Americans (I doubt 90% of the people who read the Oprah Book Club would have read William Faulkner if not for her), I gave her credit for rising from poverty, I gave her credit for confronting issues, and for existing. While her image may be fake she does still in fact exist, as there is a physical body behind that image. I am not a fan of her TV show, her magazine, or of her in general, but I am able to see why some people like her and give her credit for what she has done.

I've read of the same happening to this group happening to many of the fundamentalist christian groups.
Except you can't sell your mangled copy, and the owner of the book can still sell the book. That is the real issue.
Ahh, I was thinking of cases where 14 year olds (or younger) get pregnant, or children who are born with STDs pass it to another.
Umm... last time I looked into it child baring used to be very dangerous for the mother, with mothers commonly dying in the process. Today it is still dangerious, but less so because of C-sections.
Sex in itself isn't. But sex that results in a child or a disease transmission... especially when most of your peers can't even produce children...

Could you link to this list that is "all over the internet"?
I've forgotten what it is in photoshop again

Yes, Apple sells these. I believe they came with the Mini's when the mini's first started shipping (may be wrong though). Here are a few examples from the Apple Store (I have a feeling these might not work, so in case they are under apple.com->store->iPod accessories - headphones).A ppleStore.woa/7200707/wo/up0ZyklMjjbq20XeRMP1ap92a Oy/1.SLID?mco=1D18671E&nplm=MA360G%2FA

you will also have much more cash in your pocket.

Apple has the stability of Linux
grr... meant to say stability of unix, not linux. I really need to actually read my posts when I hit prevew...
