Writing styles have changed dramatically over time. Just as the 70s stuff was very different from the 30s/40s stuff, the 80s/90s and now the 00s/10s also feel very differently.
Most current scifi is much more character driven, and pays more attention to the second order effects of plot actions than the stuff you are thinking about.
If your kid is healthy, you may think "Why should I vaccinate?"
The reality is, kids today come into contact with other kids who may not be so healthy. By not vaccinating your healthy kid, they can become a carrier for something that is far more damaging to the immunodeficient kid in their pre-school class.
My concern would be that getting the materials to build enough lasers to outfit all cars would require being at the mercy of Chinese export controls. Like rare earth magnets, we're looking at a future where the materials are only being generated from a country that may decide they need to keep them for their own production.
I'm sure wizard's nightmare is that someone uses the OGL to reimplement all the new 4e rules (call it 3e++), and then all the publishers start dual-logoing all their products for both 4e and 3e++
Small companies always need generalists to fill in the gaps in their IT structure. Just make sure you have a good cover letter that explains your skill philosophy.

Open Media as Mr. Katz defines it cannot survive on its own. Although I appreciate sites like slashdot, and its ability to consolidate information from broad sources, without those other sources it cannot work.
Original content.... this may not be where the money is, but it IS where the info is.
If you removed every link to an external news source from slashdot, what would you have?
Stories by Mr. Katz and thats about it.
I don't mind his work, but I prefer some facts in my reporting. I read slashdot for the links. I don't want to go to 27 other news sources daily. Press Releases are not news... half the time they aren't even accurate or informative.
The Associated Press has made most newspapers functionally Open. Most major headline stories are simply reworded AP text. The AP exists online... why don't we link to them?
Becuase on slashdot, we don't want to read about Rwanda. We want to read about geek stuff. Targeted reporting is the domain of the Closed media syndicate.
Thats the way it works. Thats the way it will work.
"A third world is a scary future in which information and biogenetic technology is dispersed, giving individuals and small groups untold power." This is the whole point of the 'net, and open source. The fact that the AF and therefore the US Gov't fears this scenario, makes me wonder what our future will be like. -Fungol
