There is always Squeek (Squeek.org, I think) that is a free and very friendly Small Talk. There is a book out on squeek right now that is like "Flatland." I think it is called "Squeek - A trip into object land." It comes with the squeek CD.
Go buy a small system like a Palm and get a small onboard launguage such as the ones shown at here. There are a whole world of mostly free (or cheap) tools for small platforms such as Java, Lua, Forth, Pascal, RAD platforms etc. There are also some more professional PC hosted tools such as Metrowerks' C/C++ CodeWarrior and Palm's debugging emulator. Also, buy one of the plug-in keyboards to make it easier to enter your code.
This type of platform is small enough to wrap your hands around it;-) and learn the whole API, quarks and all. It is even more personal because you can take it with you anywhere, try that with a S100 system. It also has a real cool factor because you can show-off and share your work so easily.
The method for fully correcting for lens aberations is the Direct Linear Transform. It involves placing targets at known locations in the object field, recording their location in the film plane, then solve for this real ugly transform matix. You can then take a pixel in film space, run it through the solved matrix and get that pixels location in meat space (well really just that pixel's vector for a 2d camera system). You can also do this with two fixed cameras to solve for 3d location. I've had no trouble resolving targets down to 1/4 pixel accuracy. The only referance I have off of the top of my head is:
Woodle, Alan S., Scott Elliott: The Vector system for dynamic gait analysis. Clinics in podiatric medicine and surgery. 10(3)485-500, 1993.
There are referances to the math in that paper. Good key words to google might be DLT & photogrametry (sp?)
1) The earth is not constant. Buildings move, earth settles, plates move, etc. It may not sound like much now, but there are places where a few decades can make a change in your address.
2) The earth is not round. There is a lot to geodesy and some dead simple routine can cause problems.
3) Our understanding of our earth's shape changes over time. This effects #2
4) This does not scale well what happens at a University of 60,000 students that supplies post boxes to their students?
5) this system is 2D. Humans live in a 3d world that includes multistory buildings.
6) History. Buildings are added onto, merged with other building, torn-down and replaced by two buildings. All of this would play hobb with a pure geo system
7) Some things are mobile, ships at sea, armies, etc. How are they handled? Like FPOs?
8) Some mail, called "Caller Service" by USPS is "near virtual." For example: BobCo, City, State, Zip. You pay $US 450 so your customers don't have to learn your street address.
9) Not all mail is delivered to street addresses., i.e., Post Office Boxes.
Nintendo is unable to use or pass along any unsolicited game or product ideas. As you can probably guess, we receive tons of fantastic suggestions each month from fans like you. It would be great if we could use these ideas to develop actual products. However, developing new products requires a large investment of both time and money. In fact, creating top-notch video game products can take several years to complete and cost hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of dollars!
Although we don't use the specific ideas we receive, we do track what kinds of games and accessories our players would like to see developed. The best way to let us know what you like is to enter Nintendo Power magazine's Player's Poll contest. Each month, entrants list their five favorite games for each system. The results from the Player's Poll entries are used to figure out our readers' favorite games.
There are some very important reasons to allow CLID blocking. Organizations such as domestic violence shelters, health care providers, public health, etc require CLID. For example, do you want a CLID tag left on your hon display that says "County VD clinic," called? Even if they no one answers "finger prints" are left for every one in your house to see.
Fear as the organizing emotional issue for the people
In any mass movement there is always a driving political issue that is argued among the public. It is often a proxy for a whole agends. For example "the gold/silver standard," issue was a proxy for monopoly, "ending the vietnam war," was a proxy for a whole generational change, and what we would call today "ethnic cleansing," was a ralleying cry for the whole NAZI movement.
What has happened to this administration is very profound. They came in with a quid pro quo methodology and are now moving to a truely facist outlook. They have wed the quid pro quo to a "never again," pleadge and the result scares me. The "never again," way of doing business rapidly become self-fulling like an adrenialin addict becomes hooked on fear. Fear drivers action that crave more fear so their can be more and more.
If you use just one political scale things tend to wrap around and become meaningless. Libertarians are half far left and half far right.
"Classic" liberals and "classic" conservatives end up right next to each other in the middle when you build some bogus scale like libertarians on one end and NAZIs on the other. (BTW, put the two on either end of the scale as it makes just as much sense)
It's sort of like making a scale of the color of fruit and saying the more red it is the sweeter it is. Every tasted a raw cranberry? Makes as much sense.
What you have here is a classic argument of security vs. freedom. This is nothing new. We've been seeing Franklins famous quote all over/. This is not a truely a left or right issue. My guess is that the republicans (e.g.s America's version of the rightwing) will try and clai security as their issue. I'm still waiting to see of the democrates will claim privacy as their issue. We could very well see a bi-part center grab the privacy issue. Naa, I was dreaming. We have no center ramaining in this country. Fear is an amazing driver and Bush's people have played it to the hilt. I'm afraid that we may not have many rights left before things swing back
Many of these organizations are really guns for hire. You often see the beltway PR machines founded by big names.
And before you assume that government is behind, ask who might gain from such laws. How about a data base company in San Mateo (hint it starts with O and the initals of the CEO might be L.E). I'm sure there are many other likely suspects.
It's an amazing business these organizations have. Let big corps give tax write-offs to fund scientific sounding PR without leaving any finger prints. Anybody care to dust for a few finger prints and make them public?
The longer your run from your PC to your PC the greater the change you will spiky your PC &/or PS. The greater impedence between the two units allows any ESD (static) to bounce the ground lines and can kill your system. Also, there is a reason that the case of the PS is bolted against the case of the PC, a greatly reduced chance of ground differential. You're also more likely to see your keyboard lock-up.
To ensure a high level of computer security you are directed to cover all unsecured openings with duct tape to prevent the spread of viruses.
Please note: the use of the term duct tape refers to any brand of grey 40 MPH (64.4 KPH) tape and is not intended to infer support or recomendation of any specific brand, nor to dilute any brand or trademark. Trademarks are the property of their specific owners.
No, seriously, what happens if the lab get a lightning strike? How would the school find replacements for the outdated equipment. Sure, some of it is off the shielf (RS-232), but the token-ring stuff is getting really hard to find. Better for the school to make a planned scheduled move to current (replacable) equipment that be faced downtime in the lab while new platforms are sourced
For what it's worth, a serial port is a serial port and RS232 is a ver forgiving place to start an interface course.
There is one thing that seperates games from most other software; games are one off and are intended to updated. Code just does not need to be maintined. There are exceptions to this, but the business model is to burn through an idea and start again from scratch when the next platform comes out.
If a generic local DJ can be replaced with such a simple tool then we are not loosing much. If the most brain-dead table look-up can pass the Turing test then perhaps local DJs need to do their homework, learn more about their community and really have somthing to offer.
Rather than describe this as wiz-bang tech, I'd describe it as poor content production by local DJs. Don't get me wrong, I do want good local content. I do not want junk generic content spewed by a "local DJ" (read moved in from out of state last week).

The US economy has crashed and record sales are down, doh!
Put people back to work and record sales will go up, doh!
Thanks, I'm still working on English as a first language

Check out GForge. Wiki's are also a cool tool.
PCMCIA != Springboard. Sure they look ike a CPU memory bus, but they are very different!

How can I submit my game idea?

I have a problem with little nuthatches attacking the side of my house (peck,peck,peck....peck,peck,peck,...etc) anybody try these against birds?
Refactor, don't rewrite! First write unit & functional tests then start refactoring.

It's much more narrow than the headline might suggest.
