The parent was moderated -1, Funny . Does this not suggest that the moderators are against humor? I guess the moderators could be saying that that the post was -1 because it was offtopic and funny because it was funny, but shouldn't the moderation number correspond to the reason? Added to this someone who posted the exact same thing after this got modded 4, Funny . Will this be modded 5, Offtopic?

How do you charge for developing it other than charging for the application? I can understand charging for support, and that is a very good idea for major things like an enterprise linux solution that needs a lot of support. But for a lot of things (like small shareware applications) it doesn't work. Mac OS X itself is an example of combining open source and proprietary software. It's based on BSD but has a proprietary (and great) GUI.

This should be -1 offtopic. But I'll answer it anyway from my point of view. I don't think Microsoft is the devil and I don't think Apple is perfect. But I do believe Mac OS X is far better than Windows. I know Mac OS X isn't open source, but I don't mind. I don't think that software should all be free or open source. I prefer the idea of people who develop software being compensated for it. Open source is fine, though. I think it is better for things like file formats or other standards. As far as forcing you to buy their hardware, I like Apple hardware, and am willing to pay more to have it, and a better OS.

Generally, people spend time inventing something to make money. Patents help them to get that money. The patent system is abused by companies like this though. I feel that after a patent is taken out the person with it should be required to have it in production within a certain period of time (appropriate to what is patented) and if they do not do so they lose the patent.

Name a computer currently in production that looks better than any of Apple's made by a major manufacturer. A monitor? As for what you're saying about old Macs, some of them weren't great looking, but the first Mac (and others designed like it) was. Certainly a lot nicer than the older computers you linked to. To be honest, most of the PCs that are supposed to look good are worse looking than the old beige boxes. Of course, this is my opinion.

Safari runs even faster. There is also a G4 optimized Firefox (and a G5 one). Internet Explorer is much slower than Safari or Firefox on both of these computers, but it isn't unbearable. I see no reason for I.E. Mac to be open sourced; the interface is horrid and I'm sure most Mac developers would rather use webkit or gecko than whatever the foundation of I.E. is.

I agree with the original post that it's ugly, but thats probably because I'm used to the really nice Mac OS X cocoa applications such as Safari. It's not much/any worse than Windows IE, I guess. Still, it's interface is horrid compared to firefox, camino, safari, shiira, etc so I've never considered using it. As for bloated, I don't like having an email client built in, but it doesn't seem to get in the way. And the skins for Opera don't seem to do much.
