VHS is still superior for amatuer recording and editing of video footage. Just recently I decided I wanted to record some footage from a computer game. To record it directly to a hard drive would take up 1 gigabyte per 10 minutes of footage, and would consume a lot of CPU/hard drive/memory time in the process, while already playing a CPU/hard drive/memory intensive computer game. In addition, when writing it to DVDs, if I didn't like the first edition, thats the end of that DVD.
Compared with tape, and a video card with a tv-out component plug however; I just plug in a VCR, play away, and record up to four hours per tape. After playing I use my Ati All-In-Wonder card to bring the better footage back to the computer, while not playing a game and so not using resources; I can then edit it how I want, and re-record over the tape until I achieve perfection; and the final cut goes to a tape that I can take to my buddys house.
You don't really have to be careful. Almost anything that says "Sugar free" contains aspartame. In fact, I'd wager everything labelled that way contains it. Check everything out that you have time to the next time you go to a supermarket or anyplace they sell sweet drinks or food. Your only alternative is stuff not labelled sugar free, however that doesn't mean it will contain sugar, but rather corn syrup. Lesser of two evils I suppose.
Right. As a Brit recently moved to Houston; let me put the GP in perspective for you. I look out the window right now and all I see are cars that are luxury. Define luxury? For the travel purposes of all the people in those cars, a Mini Cooper would do fine, modern ones even have AC. What do I see though? Countless F-150s, Caddys, Beemers, Jeeps. I see a TON of vehicles that could probably carry 10 people but theres only one person in them: the driver. THAT, is what the GP is getting at; its fucking wasteful for one person to drive a Suburban everywhere. Why usea 10mpg car when you can use a 40-50mpg car that gets you between cities on two, maybe even ONE tank of gas! And just what the fuck does a city dweller need a F-150 pickup truck for anyway??? Honestly. Other than making up for a small penis, I can't find any other reason. Go ahead, mod me down, I've got karma to burn.
UK "burgers" are....somehow different. I just moved back to the USA after living there for four years, the BK was the shit, Smacky D's was shite, and British burgers are wayyyyy too small and usually undercooked, even if they look charred. Just IMHO. The best burgers I've had are at Fuddruckers in the USA and Saudi Arabia (lol!)
I live in Middlesbrough, and as a testament to why cameras do not work: One night during my 'lunch' break (I was on a late shift at work) myself and two friends were walking around the town centre looking for any restaurant still open to get some food. Anyway cut to the chase, we were approaching McDonalds (only thing open) when some guy came up to me and asked for a cigarette. While I reach into my pocket he approaches me and headbutts me hard. For the rest of the night I couldn't remember anything beyond two minutes, as in I would forget where I was and for what reason every two minutes.
This is where the camers come in: This particular place where I was headbutted had not one, not two, but THREE cameras pointing at the Smackdonalds, three different angles, all supposedly watching for any criminal activity.
A cop came the next day to my place of work to take a statement as to what happened. I asked if they caught it on CCTV. They said no. Thats all they said, not that it was too grainy to tell, or the cameras were at the wrong angle etc. Just that they didn't catch it on camera.
So the one thing that these cameras are supposedly useful for; solving crimes; it does sweet fuck-all. I actually was happy when they started installing cameras eveywhere in the town centre as several times I had been started on by groups of chavs totally unprovoked. However they obviously have done nothing but act as a supposed 'deterrent'.
Fuck cameras, fuck the police, but most importantly, fuck Chavs and the cunt that headbutted me that night.
In the game "Planetside", you can choose a male or female avatar. The "better" players almost always choose a female avatar because for some reason, the developers skipped out on some of the animation for female avatars. What this means is that by quickly pressing A + D while in a fight, a player with a female avatar will warp around on their enemies screen, and some frames of animation will be missing and so it is incredibly difficult to hit said players with a non-splash weapon.
I heard about this on the car radio driving home from work. They had a record executive talking smugly "Oh we can do this, that, the other, etc." I just had to laugh, I mean, seriously, anyone who can read English hasn't used Kazaa in years. Its full of fake files, not just the RIAAs but also those of people who, for some reason, like to use up a lot of their own bandwidth transmitting bogus files....and its also ridden with viruses. They probably did more good for the p2p community than bad. In any case, far better p2p systems like Bittorrent have replaced it, by taking down Kazaa they took down probably the most obvious target, but most assuredly did practically nothing to stop p2p piracy.
Yeah I think its pretty obvious that the places where you could get your iPod jacked probably aren't the places you should be listening to music. If you are walking around London, for example, or any other city for that matter, you need to listen for traffic. Trains or planes are generally the best situation to use an iPod in when you are moving.
Having said that though the main problem with the iPods is the distinctive white earphones + cable. If I see those I know that person has an iPod whether I can see it or not.
Crime is so bad in my area of the UK I generally only leave the house with a credit card (which can be cancelled) and a lighter. (I'm a smoker)

Actually the license fee IIRC was £130 this year, which at current exchange rates is about US$240.

IIRC the Saudi Riyal is at a fixed exchange rate of 3.5 Riyals to the US Dollar, so if the Dollar performs badly it will screw the Saudis over too.
I noticed that also, and attributed it to most of /. using up their karma modding everyone in the Monty Python poll a +5 interesting/insightful/funny.
Use TotalRC www.totalrc.net to route the gaming traffic through http port 80 then.
