A google search would probably make her find some advertisement to some dodgy program that wants her to pay a pile of money to do what openoffice can do for free. Google isn't that friendly to computer illiterate people... What needs to happen is people make a nice lil list of great programs, where to get, how to install with images and people might take it up more.

Basically it's GOING to be binned, or saved and put to a decent use. If it's gonna happen why not just let it turn into stem cell lines for research or heal someone.

It's not always about more energy to produce than it makes over its lifetime but rather delivering power to remote locations of the planet. I'd say a solar panel array would be far better than running a generator just so a few houses etc can have some lighting. A hut in the middle of nowhere can have some power at least vs the energy it'd take to transport fuel, maintain and run a generator, or even batteries for a small requirement of power.

People are tight on finances, cost of living is rising a good deal and the simple fact is people can pirate so they do. If a game was 10-25 bucks a great deal more people would say it's only 25 bucks so why not? and just buy it. When it's a weeks + worth of groceries for a few meager hours...

Actually games help relieve stress, so they have a beneficial aspect akin to medication. So even if you feel they aren't a necessity they do help out people, giving them a positive energy to unwind and deal with life. Not gonna argue the moral/legal aspects of piracy but I will argue that it does help out many people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it.

Before anyone says life is full of hard knocks, to grow up etc well the point is they are still children and learning to deal with such stress. They aren't fully matured to deal with such problems yet which is why they need nuture, but also discipline to succeed. Basically let kids be kids.

Never forget to give them some slack on the leash, teach them how to use that freedom responsibly.
