Being out of work now for a while I applied for an "SAP HR business analysis" even though I have very little HR or SAP training. Much to my surprise the University of Texas called me in for an interview. They had 'reciently implemented the HR SAP' and are now looking for people to 'fine tune' it to make it run correctly. They could not find any trained HR types with this knowledge so they interviewed me - an IT type. One comment they made was 'not to make any interface programming changes because after they update it gets overwritten'. There exists a great lack of SAP trained HR and ERP and payroll type of IT support people. The training and education to get this knowledge is very expensive. An artificial shortage designed to keep profits up for SAP.

What the educational field needs is not another GNU/Linux distro for them - there is k12ltsp that's been around a long time. Also the new eumbuntu distro. There exist several school districts that have implemted Linux in some form already. What would be more usefull is a new batch of 'killer apps' that the education field uses. Also cheep traning, support, and maybe a freshmeat type repository of these type of things. What Novell may have is company name brand supporting them.

(LOL) I do know that down here in Texas along the border the State goverment has a whole lot of internet linked cameras looking at sections of the Rio Grande River. At least they did a few months ago. A test program that I think will come back. Over by Falcon Dam, a few miles north-west of my location, the ICE, Border Patrol or somebody has a tethered blimp monitering the border. It gets blown around in bad weather. At this point they don't have enough Border Patrol types to monitor all this so they use National Guard troups untill they can recruite and train some more agents.

At my former job Microsoft did this to us already. We were one company with two divisions that had individual accounts with Microsoft. Stupid, but that was the way that the owner wanted it. Anyway Microsoft was reviewing the size of the company (from what source I don't know) and only one of the division's software purchase from them and demanded an audit claiming that we did not purchase enough software to run a busniess the size we were. They implyed that we must be 'pirateing' some software. It was a major PITA combining audit data from both divisions.
