*Not* being able to communicate with people outside the iOS user base is a user experience advantage?

This is one thing MS is getting right that Apple is doing wrong. MS aims to have cortana control and sync all discrete services by having its cortana app actually manage the device and its notifications. Apple will just be under that umbrella. Google on the other hand is allowing their apps and services on all devices, allowing the user experience to live everywhere.

Apple will just be overwhelmed or niche, unless they can somehow get a killer app or killer hardware that everyone else needs to catch up on. This is why everyone uses hangouts or slack/irc

Which is tell us that nobody's going to be there for us every step of the way at college like at high school, that we have to prepare and take initiative as much as possible, that we have to think ahead of what we want to accomplish and pick the right courses, and that This Is Real Life so we'd better take it seriously and not slack off or fuck it up because nobody will be there to pick up the pieces. Well, to someone with anxiety issues and a mother who was saying at 18 I better be ready to move out, I did not know what the fuck I was doing, who I could talk to for some understanding and sympathy (which I needed re anxiety) as well as support (I was aimless and did not know how to achieve a career I would be happy with or realize that I could try for other jobs even if I didn't have a degree specifically for that job and I could always go back to school).

  11. Why do you presume I want one? on Ask Slashdot: Why Do You Want a 'Smart TV'? · · Score: 1

The only processing I want my TV to do involves image artifact cleanup and frame rate smoothing (to prevent jarring pans and stuttery motion on a large TV where objects cross great distances between frames).

If I want more, I have many devices of my own choosing and preference I can.connect. If I must view android on my TV I can use chrome cast. The overhead on price is a turnoff, and the built in hardware can't possibly keep up with how long I will have my TV, which is probably like 10 years. In 10 years I'm sure security issues in my TV won't be patched, they have trouble getting up to date OSes for 3 and 2 year old devices.

With a mic and camera and WiFi etc I don't want my TV to put me at risk for a robbery or invasion of privacy or simply an exploit that compromises my PC's documents and files, very important as I use a HTPC with PVR and all my home videos and pics.

The recent outreach for improvement suggestions is good and I see some good changes, please keep a leash on this because it really lowers my opinion of the site, it is honestly a big disappointment when I see this and doesn't make me feel like y'all think we can do well in raising and modding up interesting points ourselves.
