  1. Re:Vista on Financials Indicate Microsoft Prepping for War · · Score: 1

Actually your both correct Vista is expected to be available to business partners in November 2006 and to the majority of consumers in January 07. Although it is not stated in the specifically linked article I recall reading that the Professional version is what will be shipping in 06 where the home and media center editions will be pushed back a couple more months. (I personally feel that's so they can implement the drm 'features', that will screw up an otherwise OK windows release) Press Release

This sure does bring more meaning to the age-old saying "I brought you into this world I can take you out of it!"

No, Macgyver must have his trusty duct tape and swiss army knife to defeat security systems. He reserves chocolate bars for minor tasks such as sealing leaking containers of acid that is so dangerous they'll destroy an entire research facility to keep it from getting out.

This actually isn't that uncommon, my family has a recipe for a play-doh like substance as well. A quick search turned up this recipe.

  5. Re:Why did you bust the myth about sinking ship? on Ask The Mythbusters · · Score: 1

As an addition to this, I think that the amount of air still trapped within the hull of the ship would make for a very important piece of the experiment. In your experiment the ship was nearly completely filled with water when it sank leaving very little space of the boat to fill with water once it submerges. I think it would make sense that the suction of a boat sinking would be as a result of the water trying to fill in the remaining air space of the boat. I think that this would be a very difficult myth to prove as the costs would be enormous, and the only way to get the water to fill in the boat fast enough would require a hole so large that'd it'd most likely destroy the boat after a single sinking.

  6. The Bridge Episode on Ask The Mythbusters · · Score: 1

I've always intended to write to you questioning your experiment on if soldiers walking across a bridge could create a "Sin Wave" that results in the collapse of the bridge. You took the time to build a scale bridge, and to create mechanical soldiers that walked in sync, all of which shows amazing dedication. But you overlooked that you didn't connect the ends of your bridge to anything, and they were flapping in the wind. In order to create that kind of a wave wouldn't it make sense that the ends of the bridge would have to be attached so the force could resonate?

  7. Overdoing it a bit. on Google DVRs and TV Advertising · · Score: 1

Not that I'm surprised, but everyone here at slashdot seems to be doing an awful lot of speculation.

Assuming that they are actually planning on doing something with this domain, I'm guessing we will see it more in the form of a physical google dvr box that will be sold at a discounted rate. In exchange for this of course they will be able to better target their advertising on their various services.

I would sincerely doubt that they will be wrapping text ads around traditional T.V. this would be incredibly irritating. I can see them doing targeted T.V. ads on the "guide" while you are looking for something to watch. This shouldn't bother the user so much, and it shouldn't bother the content producers either.

I can also see a large consulting opportunity here. Imagine the connections to information that google has. Say apple is looking to sell their newest iPod, google knows that the majority of people who have searched for information on iPods have also recently watched Friends on T.V. Knowing this google can say to apple. Advertise during friends reruns. Now this ad is running at people who are known to be interested in iPods. Therefore this ad might be the final push to get the consumer to purchase it.

Because google is actually distributing the information I don't see how this would violate their "Don't be evil" philosophy.
