    Ti introduced their new line of uControllers with F-RAM, saying it is 120 times faster than Flash.

    except for real fast needs they have some k S-RAM.

    as they are also using licensed technology like Fujitsu, we can expect more of this to come - maybe not yet for the PC!

    The technology of electric pickups for high speed trains is there.

    I think the construction cost for a length of big tube is less than for a Maglev track!

    your 10 to 20 second boot comes at which cost?

    do you keep your notebook/laptop always on?

    and as I said before: it is damned hard to corrupt a system in ROM.

    Unfortunately you are right to an too large extent on the S3 and S4 ACPI functionality in Linux distros ( more in HW drivers again )

    the solution for your quick access to the Internet. I have an ASUS P5Q DeLux with Splashtop.

    No need to wait until your OS has booted to get the latest e-mails and/or news.

    I wonder why there is no HW manufacturer coming up with Linux in the ROM - ROM chips are big enough for a basic functionality.

    The rest may come from the disk.

    And its damned hard to overcome a physical write protection and install permanent malware.

    It caught 1 Trojan over three years of operation

    in contrast to a European and a US copy of XP

    The funny thing is: I have a single copy of a Chinese WinXP.

    and it got only one Trojan within one year of operation

    in contrast to a European and US version!

    1.) keep not only production but all but communication system from the Internet

    2) do not allow removable media to the users, apply extreme caution to 'upgrades'

    3) verify by viewing the source code ( or let it be done by 2 or more separate parties )
