    You know, if you look a word up in the dictionary to see if it's real, slang, or newly coined you look a lot less stupid. Aborning is a real word, "cromulent" was invented in a cartoon making fun of making up words.

    If bicycle theft is treated with the same diligence and seriousness as car theft, people will more likely use bikes. Imagine if you went to the grocery store in your car, found it gone and the police acted like it's no big deal.

    You forget that you can buy a new bicycle for under $100, the cheapest new car you can buy costs over a hundred times that. A theft of $2500 (an old beater) is a lot worse than a theft of that brand new $300 bike. When you're talking about thefts of less than $500 the cops don't do a lot about it, unless there's guns, drugs, or violence involved. And I'd say rightly so.

    How many use jscript? Does jscript still even exist? Why in the hell can't Microsoft follow conventions and standards? Why do Microsoft devs put up with MS's disain of standards and conventions?

    We don't need a new javascript. Put this new "javascript" on your web site and only IE will be able to render your page. Why in the hell would you do that?

    And why is the parent comment modded "troll"? It's 100% accurate. Whoever modded him should never get moderation priveleges.

    Why not permanent residence? People would adapt, evolution would take hold.

    Evolution isn't an automatic "hand of god" type of thing. It involves random mutations and many generations, and is heavily dependant on death. You don't automatically "evolve" to be able to live in Antarctica, we have to supply our own environment to live there. Likewise, it would likely be tens of thousands of years at least before anyone can live in low gravity and be healthy -- if ever.

    When there is only one candidate running, how is any vote meaningful? That's often the case with congressmen. And what do you do when you have 5 candidates (not unusual) and no matter who wins, they raid SS?

    There are ways to fix this, by starting social security later, or paying less back per month.

    When my grandparents were young, only the rich paid taxes. Now the middle class pays a higher percentage of their income than the rich do. The answer is simple: get rid of the $75k income ceiling when taxing, keep a ceiling when paying back. Let those who can afford it pay for it. After all, their wealth comes from our labor.

    We are borrowing money to put off dealing with entitlement reform. Spending money on pensions and healthcare for 80 year olds is pure consumption

    I've been paying SS and Medicare taxes for 45 years. I fucking paid for it. Congress kept borrowing from the money we PAID. Yes, we ARE entitled to that SS amd medicare. Are you entitled to the food you bought and paid for? Are you entitled to the money you put in the bank? Yes, you are, and if you fuck with my retirement income, good luck getting reelected, kid.

    BTW, fuck everyone who is against my getting what I PAID FOR. Goddamned thieves...

    However, the ISP's TOS forbids it. Nobody's going to break into the computer unless it has no password. But as I've gotten free wifi from unsecured hotspots, I see no reason not to repay by doing the same.

    I'm confused why Apple isn't being sued for the exact same kind of behaviour with their products and ecosystem.

    Because Microsoft has a monopoly on desktop OSes, something like 90%. Apple has no monopoly in any space, for every iPhone sold, there are two Android phones sold. If MS did this with phones they'd be off the hook, because they have no monopoly in that market.

    How many employers do you know with more than a dozen employees that don't engage in interstate commerce? Lawn care, a minority of restaraunts, barbershops and the like is pretty much it. Any manufacturing plant is going to do interstate commerce.

    Not just MS, but I'm sure the ones who are doing it are being paid for it by MS. I've seen it after installs from other devs. At least they're not as bad as Yahoo. Look for a Firefox downlod on Yahoo, and what you DL comes with the Bing Bar, the Yahoo bar, and with Bing as the default search.

    No general principle of law exists that forbids fines to be adjusted to the means of the condemned.

    In this case it does. The fine is expressed as a percentage of profits. Too bad speeding fines aren't like that, if those damned BMW and Escalade drivers got $10,000 tickets for blasting past me at 90 mph you'd see far fewer rich bastards flout the law like that.
