I'd really hope that in a million years from now people would walk around with pieces of flare saying "We're not in Kansas anymore".

    Or with red staplers..

Actually Succubi are often depicted even without a bra. Just do a google image search on Succubus

  4. Re:stating the obvious... on On The Feminine Form In Gaming · · Score: 1
I believe what game artists realize is that people usually want to play attractive avatars; female characters will have female attributes just as males will have male attributes. An overly muscular women model will simply be in less demand compared to a well shaped feminine model regardless of wether the player is male or female.

One of the best examples would be World of Warcraft (a game reveled by male and female players alike) or the Sims. Just have a look at what female players choose as their avatars - they usually do not pick the uglier looking ones just to prove a point. They along with their male comrades pick the appearance most pleasing (though tastes may vary), it's just human nature.

And "society's attitude" towards women is only partly formed by the media (e.g. computer games). How women - i.e. 50% of the population - themselves act inside society has a far greater influence than any other factor. (We'll have to count out certain patriarchic fundamentalist regimes though)

Yes, I had to revert to my previous version of Firefox, because some of the extensions were (still) not up to date. Now I'm thinking about restoring from a backup, because some of the extensions, that had upgrades available don't work with my old version :/

There should be warnings about problems like these, that are likely to crop up, so people will know what to expect before downloading. Transparency usually is a good thing.

  9. Re:Google and Privacy on Google Patent for User Targeted Search Results · · Score: 1

This is a very plausible scenario. I know for us geeks it's great to rave about a company like Google that drives new ideas and technology to a new level. Although I believe unconciously many identify with Google, because they see in them the counterpart to the omnipresent evil Microsoft (which the Linux community with all it's diversity and no firm managing "kernel" can never become).

What disturbs me is the notion that people seem to have nothing against accumulation of power as long as they believe it is good for them. History has shown in many different ways that accumulation of power in itself is evil. Why? Because over the long term people can not handle too much power. Too much power has usually corrupted those in charge unless they already had a corrupt mind in the first place and came to power with the help of good marketing (also known as propaganda).

I am aware of a few (very few) examples in which those in power have not been corrupted and have led with foresight and really "did good". In these cases the problem arises as soon as an event weakens their stance among the people (usually their death). Those who will fill the void, the 'successors to the trone', are very likely to either be egoistic (and therefore will abuse their power), incompetent or both, which again leads to the scenario above - a few corrupt individuals with way too much power in their hands.

Power should always be distributed as evenly as possible. There will always be those who crave power and those that don't care. But in order to keep the suffering of people to a minimum, we, the people, have to remain eternally vigilant about who seizes power and especially who seizes too much power.
