Robots can't vote, and meanwhile the majority demographic will use their vote to determine the economic structure that meets their needs best. So your fantasy that non-robot owners would wallow in frustration is just a fantasy.

During the 1970s, they said the same thing about computers - that they would replace all the jobs, that only the rich would own them, that everybody else would be unemployed, etc. But now everybody owns a computer - just like how everybody may own a robot.

  18. Re:Not enough publicity on What's Holding Back 3-D Printing · · Score: 5, Insightful

What rubbish - with everyone and his brother being a programmer nowadays, anything new always ends up with a call to develop more software for it. When all you have is a hammer, then every problem is made to look like a nail. Software is most certainly not the bottleneck. There are plenty of 3D modeling programs out there, and a number of them have features for solid modeling.

The real hurdle to 3D printing is in being able to produce parts that don't look like rejects from the Lego factory. High-end 3D printers that can produce high-quality objects command an astronomical price. Software is the least of the problem here.

I just want to add that the quality of the launch video was superb - even better than the quality of SpaceX's video footage.

Their video was crystal clear from start to finish. Even SpaceX's onboard cameras tend to get moisture and ice accumulating on them during ascent, but the Antares cameras were nice and clear. Likewise, even the interior cameras gave a perfectly serene view of the interior before faring separation.

A textbook launch - very nice and very smooth.

  25. Milking It to Death on Disney Announces "One Star Wars Movie Per Year" Plan · · Score: 5, Insightful

The physics of Hollywood is such that it will eventually suck everything dry, like locusts ravaging the landscape until it's so barren that they starve to death. Any good stories that they have produced will ultimately be repeatedly milked to death until they are bone dry.
