I would rather not burn bridges - you never know if you may want to work at a company where a previous co-worker is employed at. Leaving with grace is always better then leaving with attitude.
Indeed. This is certainly a case where honesty is NOT the best policy. Because I generally leave on good terms I've been offered consulting gigs with old employers and I get good recommendations. I also have been offered full time employment by former employers and former co-workers.
In Utah, Xmission is an excellent ISP to go with to run a server from your house with a DSL connection. They have small business/home office accounts too for fairly cheap. Info on their dsl services. Their tech support is pretty awesome too. This sounds like an ad but I don't work for them, I'm a customer only.
All the regulations they put in place and their little program just seem like good news for geeks. Sure, the average student's rights are being grossly violated but the not-so-average geek can find so many ways around this plus i'm sure his/her bandwidth is increased drastically. I'm not saying the administration isn't stupid, just that their stupidity should be used appropriately.
i was aware of the offensive nature of my comment. In this case it was supposed to be somewhat offensive and funny. But alas, it looks as if I've failed. Oh well, at least it was offtopic and flamebait, not to mention the spelling error that brings out the demand for correct spelling in all the ACs.
here we can see the Mormon PR machine in action. or maybe in this case it's the brainwashing machine that's gotten to you.
also, you should understand that the original post was meant to be somewhat humorous, with a bit of self-depricating humor built in. I realized the unenlightened (read YOU) may not recognize suttle humor. So, for the unenlightened I have a more clear message.
As a Utah native, this SCO fiasco is just one of a plethora of evil things which surround this evil place. Discrimination runs rampant here, stupid capitalism runs unchecked and worst of all, Mormonism is alive and well (with correlations between depression and suicide rates). Are all these evils coincidence or is Utah simply a den of iniquity? screw SCO and screw Utah. SCO's PR machine probably gets it's method from the LDS church's PR machine. What an evil, evil place. I need to move away.
You said: "the fact that they've been reluctant to release any evidence tells me that there likely isn't any"
I suspect that the reason they aren't forthright with the information is because they intend to leverage the ambiguity to their advantage. They want companies selling Linux to license their technology and I assume they will continue to keep that information a secret. They of course will be unable to and the code in question will eventually be removed or found irrelevant to the lawsuit(s). Anyhow, I think the portion of your statement which I quoted is false.
Anyone want to bet on how many days it takes before someone has reverse-engineered the MaciMusic store protocol and writen and app that masquerades as iTunes-on-a-Mac thus allowing Linux and Windows users to download the Apple's nice AAC music files through Kazaa?
well, say you have two products. one product costs $500 and is the budget version and another product is $1000 for the "high-end" version. Now both of these products are actually the same, the only thing that separates them is the driver for the device.
I'm a CS geek who switched to philosophy after i found that CS just wasn't doing it for me. I still love computers (and currently work with them) but I don't plan on doing it forever (or at least full-time). If you're good at CS you may be able to work part-time and make nearly as much as those 'other majors' like philosophers/teachers/journalists/historians/etc. So keep your options open. Get that degree in the field you love and use CS as your 'whore job' as I like to call it. If you're like me you'll be surprised how much you like CS when you mix it up with other interests.
One who may not be known but should be are Bryan Magee (philosopher still living), Wendell Berry (poet and farmer - living), and Thomas Merton (catholic Monk who died in the 60s).
Praise the Lord, and Jeremy Allison. I just hope MS doesn't screw things up again. Samba is one of the best things to happen to Linux servers. I've personally been able to circumvent the purchase of 3 MS NT/2000 Servers because of the Samba team's good work and my personal propaganda.
I'm not just saying this as a *nix advocate (which I am) but I can't begin to tell you how many virii have been spread that are specifically designed for the Outlook/Exchange combo. Just take a look at McAfee's site and see what types of viruses you find and see what percent only work with Outlook or exchange or work better with them. If you must have calendaring there are *nix solutions available and if the company doesn't want to go with a *nix solution, try Groupwise with Novell first. It's a much better product and doesn't transmit nearly as many virii. You should be able to make a compelling case just looking at the virus problem.
Is it possible that nullsoft made some sort of agreement to keep their working environment in tact when AOL sought to take them over? Tivoli did something similar when IBM took them over. If so, that would have been a neat trick. If they did, they should be commended and imitated.
I recently interviewed for a job at a company called Globeset who basically does just what this guy is talking about. An example of one of their customers' products in Citibank's citiwallet. Getting an account at citiwallet may solve his problem.
That is all.

Which will hopefully, in turn, force us to create a better network. And perhaps we can start again and this time try to avoid Eternal September.
Is it just me or is it possible we could get this prof and his students for violating the DMCA?

"Stating the Obvious" should be there with "Redundant" and "Troll". "Dumbass" would be a nice addition as well.

wow, now i have to say that comment was about as depressing as I can handle. The original guy seems to take life quite well.
lighten up.
proud patriot and anti-republican voter.
i believe this story has been posted already. Not that I didn't want to hear the whole thing again, over and over and over.

On Kevin's behalf, i have a couple of words for you Remus, "Fuck You!". I hope you get kicked hard in the balls today.
Regards.

how did we get M$ ads on Slashdot? that's very interesting to me.
