I mostly agree with you. The human mind will grow together with AI. Like how Wikipedia gives the common person more knowledge than the greatest humanist 50 years ago, new developments in AI will be used to advance the human mind.
Neither is it necessary for us to understand the complete human mind to expand its capacities. Just as a simple pole enables us to Jump a 15 foot high fence crude electronics could be used to improve our brain.
Ps; please forgive my english, it`s not my first language
Close to what I'm worrying about to. What if prospective employers start asking access to your health records. They do the same with your credit ratings.
I understand that you want to own your information but there should be limits to whom you can give access to.
The same as you're not allowed to give up your rights you shouldn't be allowed to give up certain private information.
I already don't like that your health information is given to health insurance companies so why should i want to give it to Google
It's ugly. In my opinion the e-book from amazon needs to have a touch screen iso a keyboard. If you want to turn a page flick your finger along a corner. As with the iphone the touch screen will give you a more physical feeling of holding a book. The second thing that it need is an alternative (pirated) supply of books. Just like the ipod succeeded because you could put your own CD's, or downloaded songs on it the e-book will also only succeed when you can put any text you want on it for free. The average ipod owner has only 5 songs on his iPod that are bought through iTunes.
Why would you try to avoid having a legal trade in marihuana? It is not physically addictive - as is alcohol - and it has no long term side effects. I agree that some people get mentally dependent on it but they would get addicted to something anyway. I get a feeling you are jealous of people having a good time.
Don't presume I don't know the problem with MJ. I was one of the problem people but I would never say that MJ harmed me. It was all my doing
I went to the website http://www.axontc.com/ . and found following description; "Key Benefits PMCm has a number of unique attributes that make it a highly attractive component for future systems on silicon: Operation at low voltages ( 0.3 V) High speed write and erase operations ( 30 ns) Low energy to change state ( 1 pJ) Physical scalability to tens of nm Easy integration with IC logic circuitry Operation as a low refresh-rate DRAM or as a true non-volatile memory with high endurance (based on the programming mode). These features define a class of devices that are essential for projected electronics systems and which will be difficult to realize using developed versions of today's circuits. "
Time will solve it. Time and consistently doing the right thing. The rage they feel is their own feeling and you can not change another person. They have to come to the realization that you are not so bad after all. Besides , most of these strong feelings will die down when they get a bit older.
As said in another post; I believe it would be best to follow the Gandhi way. Turn the other cheek. Try to make the cause of their anger go away instead of retaliating without measure - especially if you start retaliating to the wrong people.
I was amazed too when I came to the US. I got a job soon after I came over here and the company offered me a good health insurance. They paid most of it but I still needed to contribute an additional $350 (UK175) per month.
I had a $20 copay and $500 deductible which meant that each time I went to a doctor I would have to pay $20 until the deductible was used up and after that the insurance would pay everything.
What really amazed me that if you weren't insured the doctor would charge you more than if you were. My GP charges $85 when you are insured and 115 when not insured. It seems they have agreements with the health insurance companies to lower rates if the health insurance companies sends patients to them.
You would expect that. I don't know if you saw the latest movie of Michael Moore "Sicko". In this movies he explains that a lot of workers are held hostage by their college debt and the high health insurance cost. Typically a college student starts his career with 30 to 60 thousand dollar in debt and a good health insurance for your family is easily a 1000 dollars a month. You better find a job quikely before you get sick or the debt collectors are at your door.
You also have to take these unemployment figures with a grain of salt. Working full time for walmart or consorts doesn't get you enough to rise above the poverty level. A lot of people work 2 jobs to make ends meet. Also a lot of people that shouldn't have to work - retired, handicapped or sick - work at these placed to be able to pay their health insurance.
I don't know why people here accept it - in Belgium I would have been protesting about it - but here i'm an immigrant so I feel I have to follow the mores. Perhaps I'll change my mind later, but for now I try to work in their system.
I'm sorry I didn't specify that I was talking about the US. I recently moved here from Belgium and it is amazing how much power companies have over here. I haven't come by a company yet that didn't do a complete background check (criminal, credit and previous employers). before hiring you. The lower the pay, the more intrusive they tend to be.
I had several companies that required me to sign waivers, allowing them to act in my name and enabling them to circumvent the few privacy laws that exist here before even considering me for a position.
I'm really afraid that once such a system is in place here companies will require to give them access to our health history
To my opinion you're only partially right. You are the one who should decide which doctor can see your info but I don't believe you should have the possibility to forward that info to any party that doesn't need this kind of info. Not to insurance companies, employers or financial institutes.
It is certain they will abuse it and force you to give them that info.
Example. No mortgage before they see your health history
How long do you think it is going to take before you have to give permission to prospective employers to see your complete file?
Longer than it took before almost everybody has to undergo a credit check before being hired?
Don't worry. The university will start protecting you the moment a son or daughter of a big donor shows up on the list. That shouldn't take too long before it happens.
I don't see anybody complaining about the socialised road, garabage collection, fire, police and military.
I am.
At least you can complain about it and not vote for the politician that doesn't do what you'd like them to do.
Could you explain me how you can influence the health insurance companies? Most of the times the insurance is provided by your employer and it is very costly to change it to one of your liking. Also, you have no influence on what they rules they implement or who they hire to implement them
Number 1 is clearly incorrect. The cost of a product is not only defined by the salaries paid. The average percentage of salaries paid compared to other costs is only 3%, so even if salaries were doubled overnight inflation rise would only be 3% .
You could also split the encripting between 2 machines. A critical part of the de-encryption could be done on your cell phone, ipod or on another computer in your network. If the first computer doesn't receive this data the de-encription would not work. How likely is it that the forensic lab would recreate your network before trying to crack your computer?
Situation A is more efficient for the store because they don't have to pay for the transport to the customer.
This hidden cost is solely paid by the customer when he goes to Wal-Mart to pick up their goods.
Btw. How would you organize Situation B in an efficient manner? People are not home during the day. You would have to make an appointment with each of your customers.
The only way that I see to even come close to an efficient situation B is to have local - think street or community level - stores/depots where the customer could pick up the goods ordered on line.
That way the chains could avoid waiting times or second delivery attempts while the customer could reduce his driving costs and shopping time.
Quote " 1) Specification errors - the spec says to do something (or neglects to say something) that even if implemented correctly will not cause the correct result"
A lot of theses errors are becouse software is designed by programmers and not by the users.
Part of my job is spefifying new functions in the web applications of my company. The normal flow of information is from me as business user to the software designer to the coder and then I have to give my comments on the finished product.
More often then not,the first round we have to srap the implementation of the new function and start over again. Not because the coder didn't do a good job but because the designer didn't have a clue what my spêcifications meant or how they should be implemented.
How can I explain to somebody who doesn't know anything about my field of work what I really want. Whenever I speak with him, or her, I catch myself going in "stupid mode". I will try to dumb everything down and leave out the exeptions and finer points as I would with some new trainee.
The only times we were able to get something working from the first go was when I could speak directly to the coders with the designer acting as a moderator.
Personally I found it a lot easier to talk to them too. I would just tell them where I wanted things to be and how the program should react and the coders could give me immediate feedback if it was possible or not.
When I had to talk to the designer I would never know what I would get back - I would tell him something like : "in this table exchange the column shipment number with the column delivery number" and he would come back saying that it was impossible to do so they replaced the delivery number by the transport order number because according to him that would solve my problem - which it didn't.
Quote "Why should a company stop selling goods based upon email referrals?"
I have no problem with companies selling trough referals as long as they know that the referrer is a reputable company or person itself. What is it with all this irresponsibility. Don't you care that those companies clog up the internet and annoy people with no end for a quick buck.
The only ones responsible for spam are the companies making money of it and they are the only ones who can stop it.
If your company makes money by selling to the spammed people you should be held responsible.
Do you really think that the company which sells Viagra - I forgot the name - doesn't know through wich channels (legal and illegal) their product is sold? It's a medicine for *** sake.
It is fairly easy as a company to protect yourself from liability. Denounce the companies which sell your product in illegal ways.
If you sold it to a distributor who unknowing to you sold it trough spamming you can always sue him.

The flash memory could be used for often accessed and not often changed data. Perhaps big chunks of the OS? That should speed things up a bit.

No end user is going to use a product if it NEEDS documentation.
Couldn't this be used to make smaller and faster CD writers? What if they can use it to write parallel bits to a disc
