I like it. I can't help but believe that unfettered world wide access to information will lead to a more informed populations that will shun oppression and xenophobia in favor of participatory government and ethno-religious tolerance. This, in turn, will lead to more prosperity and consumer spending.
Good people who work at Yahoo are running for the hills. Even if they stay independent, there won't be anyone left to implement Jerry's secret plans to save Yahoo.
So how do you explain Popes teachings that diverge from the teachings of previous Popes? Was the Sun revolving around the earth when the church condemned Galileo? Did the Sun and Earth reverse their relative roles when the church finally acknowledged the truth of Galileo's observations? Which 'truth of the church' should I accept?
I have a lot of experience with this. Its a complex emotional process whichever way you decide to go. It is so emotional and personal that I think both options should be widely available and I respect anyone who makes a choice in this area. I don't assign any moral ranking to these two choices. As for me, I've done both. Both are tough roads but the outcome is pure joy.
I can't believe I am posting about this. I'm a Catholic, I'm a scientist, and my kids are the result of artificial insemination.
In my local Catholic community, these things are not discussed. Instead I hear mostly about practicing non-violent conflict resolution and a life time of charitable endeavors. That all works for me on the local level. Beyond that, the Catholic hierarchy can go pound sand. The pope and most of the clergy that rank high enough to wear silly hats tragically waste their energy on needlessly divisive issues. I'd rather they worked on poverty and resolving conflict without war.
If that is your view, then why don't you start a competing search engine company with that as a primary feature? That's a more just path than using the heavy hand of the law to force Google to do something they do not think is in their interest.
>Like one authorized by Congress, including Clinton and Edwards?
What's your point? Bush led us into an unjust war and Clinton and Edwards agreed. Let's vote them all out of office. Unjust is unjust whether it comes from Republicans or Democrats.

Because I am a liberal who is concerned about social justice, I get excited by technologies that could be used to increase energy consumption by folks who are lower on the socio-economic ladder. Increased use of energy consumption for things like refrigeration, home heating, and personal car transportation is something I don't think should be reserved for the upper classes. Inventions that lower the cost of personal energy consumption are worthy of attention and disproportionate investment from fair minded progressives.
This tells me that there are university professors and students who are passionate about hi-tech. That passion is a productive alternative to the other model we have of Iran as a bunch of wild eyed fundamentalists who want to bomb the world back to the 8th century. Perhaps this competing force of moderation in Iran will grow its influence through hi tech and universities.
At Will employment laws, contrary to initial gut level thinking, actually raise hiring levels and job creation. Hiring managers in At Will countries know they can fix a hiring mistake easily if the person they hired is not right for the job. Hiring managers make mistakes sometimes in their hiring decisions. It happens. Just like any of us make mistakes in our other job functions. The risk of a bad hire is low because there is an available remedy. They can fire the person who is not working out.
Hiring managers in non At Will countries also make hiring mistakes. However, their available remedies are quite restricted. That means there is a lot of risk associated with creating a new position and hiring someone for it. The result is that fewer positions are created. Employers looking for new office locations take this into account. They are far more likely to bring jobs to your state if your state is an At Will employment state.
This is why Silicon Valley happened in California and it will never happen in France. California is an At Will employment state.
Just how much skin will we need? Will it be like blood banks? Instead of needles and cookies they'll hand you a loofa and tell you to start scrubbing. That would work if dry skin is what they need. If they need fresh moist skin then maybe each of us will be on the hook to 'donate' a 1 inch by 1 inch square from our buttock of choice.

Why not just burn the hydogen onsite for electricity generation? Then you don't have to spend energy compressing or moving the hydrogen. Just put the new electricity on the grid. We'll all be driving plug in electric cars before the portable hydrogen economy ever gets going.
I live in the SF Bay Area. Where is the nearest place I can take my curious children to see full sized assembled dinosaur fossil skeletons? Thank you for the slightly off topic post.
This is short sighted on the part of Russia. Russia has a brain drain problem. Silicon Valley is awash in bright Russian immigrant software developers who love the opportunities and freedoms they are getting. This increased censorship and eroding of basic rights back home in Russia will only increase that trend and leave Russia holding the bag with the beaten down and uninspired population that will remain.
I am worried. Yes, the law is silly and unenforceable. However, having lots of unenforced and silly laws on the books makes everyone a criminal and subject to capricious arrest anytime anywhere. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, maybe even George Bush love laws like this because they can employ them at a moment's notice against their perceived threats.
I'd like my doctor to have one of these new fangled ray gun thingies just in case I become infected with some of that super duper bacteria I keep hearing about.

So, what should be done in response to their poor regard for balance? What would you do today if you were running the world?

Perhaps the twin towers would still be in New York if we had one of these guns mounted on the top of each tower on 9/11.
I'm sure a President like George Bush will only use these in a just war. Sleep well tonight friends.

I'm not talking about the US. Have you ever traveled to a country with a low standard of living?

What does George Bush or the neo-cons have to do with this?

Why do you think that is the case? That sounds very dismal.

I love Brussels. Does this museum contain any discovered fossils of the ancestors of the Manneken Pis?
I live in the SF Bay Area. Where is the nearest place I can take my curious children to see full sized assembled dinosaur fossil skeletons? Thank you for the slightly off topic post.
It is hard to draw a line between political and economic migrants. The economics are negatively affected by xenophobia, censorship, and racism.
