Personally I do not own any gaming consoles, but I do love to play games on my linux machine. If we can make a large gaming society on linux, we may start to get more PC vendors interested in linux, and supporting linux. The more I think about it, the more I think this is a great idea.
Shweet, I can finally build a room of linux servers to start my own google project!
I personally still run Win98 and Win2k, along with linux on my top of the line machines. Why do I use linux on my top of the line machines? To get around all that DRM shit and to get the most out of my pc. Win2k (and WinXP) suck on 1gig ram with a 2ghz amd processor, I get like 20 fps with FPS games on Windows, but around 60 on *nix. (Windows sucks, linux rocks, all there is too it:-D)
I remember those Bill Gates commercials targetting Apple about becoming a mindless drone, Windows has become the drone machine.
As a teenager of 18, I've come to realize that the American Democracy truly sucks. I understand t hat there are currently problems with minors o nthe internet, but within 20-30 years all of these problems iwll be resolved with parents that are technologicaly sound. Currently, parents have no idea how to use parental controls or how to supervise their kids, and I know my parents can't figure out what I'm doing. I say leave the legal problems alone for now, and try to fix them later if problems still arise. For now, let the old farts leave us alone.
Gentoo has long been considered a hobbyists flavor of linux, and as much as I enjoy Gentoo as a hobbyist, I've come to learn that a slim hardned version of Gentoo will have almost no trouble at all. A slim server that requires minimal amounts of packages requires minimal amounts of updates, and runs extremely well.
I also love that Gentoo has THEE quickest reaction time to security updates, leaving your competition vulnerable and you safe. I've got multiple computers running gentoo. One is my home desktop that I didn't use for probably 2 months. In that period of time there were 800 packages that had to be updated, I'm now down to about 200 that I still have to finish, and that is exactly what this article talks about. However, a server won't have that many packages to begin with because it won't have gnome, kde, beryl, nvidia, dvd support, mythtv and other optional programs, and games! However, my gentoo server, left alone for 2-3 years probably would require everything to be updated, it would flow much more smoothly than a desktop update.
Gentoo is great on serveres as long as you don't have everyting installed. Gentoo is great on desktops as long as you keep upgrading. Gentoo rox.
If you use an ide you tend to not learn some of the knowledge capable from learning from base code. My school offers several computer classes, but all with an IDE. I've petitioned and I'm now taking independent classes WITHOUT an IDE because I want to know the whole language. The more you know the easier it is. I would rather learn the basics from notepad or vim, and then learn to use easier methods.
Its similar to driving a stick shift vs an automatic. If you drive a stick you understand how the car works and you need to pay attention, and if you drive an automatic you crash because you have to pay less attention, especially while your shaving on your way to work:)
The eventual problem is that there are people who will want these chips, mostly the uninformed or those who do not think ahead. You cannot ban the chips entirely because of this, but I think you need to ban it as a necessity to vote, to drive, and other things. I would think you could argue against the chip as your drivers license because it is invasive to your privacy, as long as you can prove people can keep track of you.
If we have decent supreme court judges the RFID chips shouldn't be as bad as a Driver's License.
Maybe I'll send a letter to my senator.. me -> Cowtipper of Wisconsin
I know of one particular site, as of two and a half years ago, closed access to their site because of the government complaining about them. Since then they must have moved their servers because the website is back up. It is a website that works with rotten.com
Just one step closer to ignoring the real world and living in a virtual reality!
