So if I have a unsecured wireless access point in my home, and some 16 year old drives by with his little pda and it detects it, he comes back with his laptop and starts using it to look at porn, would I be held liable for that? That is complete crap that I could be held liable for SOMEONE ELSE. I think wireless hotspots should put up disclaimers that "the USER" will be held responsible for anything. Internet is not out of control, in fact, I'd say there is too much legislation on the Internet. More rights less government! lol

Just create an even smaller percentage of "linux" and "mac" users by giving out the OS for three bucks. What does that cover, the cd, shipping, and a slight profit.
I still think the OLPC is a better idea. Cheaper, and less likely to crash.

My computer had some troubles recently, turned to be a bad bios (did a firmwapre upgrade and solved the problem) but because I use gentoo and it takes a little longer to install, (had ruined my information in attempting to fix the comp :-D) I installed Kubuntu. Less than 4 hours later, I formatted the harddrive and started to reinstall Gentoo. I couldn't stand the slugishness of KDE with Ubuntu. I looked at the package management system, and it didn't seem to have too much (maybe I wasn't looking around enough?) I wanted some office stuff, but I also wanted enemy territory true combat. It seemed like everything in Kubuntu's package management system was a part of KDE. It upgraded everything real nicely once it was installed, but I couldn't stand the long boot time. To me, I love Gentoo's ebuild system. Portage works so well with over 10,000? or is it 8,000? packages at my fingertips. Emerge xfce4 and I'm set lol. I haven't the chance to try out Mandriva/Mandrake, but with this Metisse thing I might have to check it out. (I've been using E17 a lot recently as well.) In my limited experience, I learned so much more about linux from gentoo's installer and it prepared me to handle most any situation. (Support is amazing!) Suse installs amazingly easy, but that was when I didn't know anything about linux. Once it was up I didn't even know how to install programs hehehe. If Kubuntu has a better package management system than I think it does, then its probably better than Suse for that. Slackware can be a little confusing to install as well. ClarkConnect, (not sure what thats based on, uses RPM's, so redhat?) installs easily but is for pure gateway/firewall use. Again, I think I might find a... 7th harddrive and install Mandriva :-D

I did notice that as soon as I got a $250 credit card (I know, there's people with $100,000 limits) I immediately started getting other credit card offers for $300 from other entirely unrelated credit card companies. As soon as I applied for one online college site (petersons and collegeboard) I received hundreds of mails and emails for different colleges. Thats right on. America in general is falling behind in research, and Microsoft is definitely a leader in this problem. The less competition there is, the less innovation there is. Look at Ford and GM. Their hybrid vehicles suck. But then look at Toyota and other foriegn companies, they are giving great innovation and driving our own companies into the ground. Microsoft isn't about software or the customer, but is about business decisions.. They bought out dos and made millions. I'm glad that google is finally taking the initiative to try and crush M$. Microsoft has almost no original ideas. I see tons of games that were originally designed by a small company or a single person, and then get bought out. Asheron's Call is an example of this. We need more and more competition. In fact, every time a friend of mine has a problem with a program, I recommend Open Source Software because it usually has far superior support. Norton Symantec causes tons of problems with a slew of applications. So, I recommend Comodo for a firewall and avast/clam for antivirus. If google can start to create an effect on Microsoft, perhaps more companies can gain a greater market share as well. In fact, I would even love to see four or five commercial operating systems and three or four open source operating systems with programs that will work on all of them. Multi-platformed computers would be great, but now I'm getting a little off topic. Basically, competition drives innovation. Innovation defeats competition. Microsoft just bought out all the innovation. So, thats my two cents.

I know that even though I try to say nothing false, I can say things that are wrong. You cannot trust one single person to be correct, just as you cannot trust one single source to be correct. When you write a paper for some thorough report, everything you make a comment about should have more than one source. Why? Multiple sources are much more credible than single sources. I think blocking wikipedia is like trying to tell a 15 year old boy that girls aren't important. Personally, I would contact your school board and represent some of the opinions of our fellow slashdotters. Although wikipedia can give incorrect information, it is definitely a great start on a research project because it can you give the general idea of something before you delve deeper into a topic. I definitely agree with Matt here that if a student gives incorrect information on something, he should be docked, unless he can prove it from multiple sources (not just one). Anyways, thats my two cents.
