I purchased a Dell Inspiron 7000 almost a year ago. This machine totally rocks. It's a bit heavy (10.4 lbs.), but it's worth it to me.
The video card rocks. I has a ATI Rage Pro LT with DVD support and TV out. It supports three screens - three separate images on three separate screens. I can drive the lcd, a monitor, and a tv at the same time. Currently I have the lcd and a 17" monitor both kickin... it rocks. Quake and Need For Speed run nicely. The lcd is great... when it drops to 640x480 (or other resolutions - for games and whatnot) it anti-aliases the image (hardware) and shows it full screen... as opposed to just shrinking the image down (as some laptops do)
Since it's a big boy, it holds big batteries! When I put both batteries in that machine, I can get about 6 hours of work time... not bad! I've also recenlty found an app that will allow me to hot-swap my options-bay... I can pop out my dvd/floppy and put in my zip drive. This is a very nice feature
I've been looking at the new Inspiron 7500. They look even better (of course). Faster CPUs and stuff (duh)... but it also has options for an internal cd-rw and many more cool features. If I'm not mistaken, I also remember hearing about Dell shipping these beasts with Linux pre-installed. That'd be cool, although installing on this machine was a breeze... there's tons on info online too!
To sum it up. It's big, it's heavy, but it kicks ass!
Let's get the ball rolling on this... DoS is lame!! It pisses people (like me)off, and slows down connections. I hope that script kiddies that did this die slow!!!
I managed to find a bunch of these shelf-slides (the ones that are ridiculously expensive at office depot) at a local industrial supply company. They were less the $10/set. They're increadably strong, cheap, and easy to install.
I can't wait untill wearables become standard (maybe?? )!!!! I think language translation would be the most useful feature. Imagine being able to walk around in a mult-culteral area and know what everybody's saying!!!
In their little timeline at the bottom it says: 11:30 p.m.-1:45 a.m. If the lander had entered "safe mode" after touchdown, this is when it would wake up and try to contact Earth.
That's the problem right there... the damned thing's running Windows...
all i have to say is, PHP is the shit... so powerful, so fast, so easy!!!
PHP is almost better than sex... almost...

crashing phone system out for hours?

If you look at this DOJ page, it mentions these hackers breaking in to the phone swith and rebooting the machines. Apparently, this brought the machines down for hours./bullshit/
don't i clearly recall that when AT&T had their little network problem that resulted from some dumbass not putting some { } in the code that the real issue had to do with the speed of the reboot.
the machines would crash, because of the aforementioned bug, and then reboot _in about 6 seconds._ And the problem was that when they would come back online they crashed other machines... or something...
I worked for a company that modified these units into some kickin' tempest units. Anyways, the website is http://www.hetrasecure.com. I don't recall what they cost, but if you're a US citizen, it's all you. The advantage of ruggedness and TEMPEST, all in one!!!
This is a good thing... so many people (including myslef) are often confused by what can be copyrighted/trademarked/etc. I hope this helps clear up some confusion.
that's why you get a laptop with a cool video out port... like the dell i7k. i just d/l the latest movies, play them full screen on the tv... chicks dig it... 'specially when the movie is still in the theaters (not that i support piracy..) >=)
yeah, real time speech translating would be really cool to... or even something simpler like a address book (for those of us that are bad with names!!!
or perhaps whoever posts first should automatically get a little "this user was the first to post on this topic" marking, or something along these lines. Maybe people would feel less inclined to post only to be first... maybe not... =)
i managed to find this info about dual celerons. it mentions some crazy stuff about having to drill certain pins out and rewiring stuff on the chip. If you look near the bottom of the page, you'll find info about how to get dual celerons w/o drilling or crazy (fun?) chip-work. =)
SuperMicro has a series of tower cases that meet those specs... they're not bad looking, but there's really nothing special about them. They even have dual power supply options!
I used to work at a company that produced TEMPEST equipment. For a demonstration to some news reporters, they decided to demonstrate what tempest is. They setup a laptop on one end of a large room, and on the other side of the room had an antennae, some nifty equipment, and a CRT. They then proceded to display the LCD's video image on the CRT. I don't think the reporters understood...but none the less, LCDs do emmit readable TEMPEST emmisions.
Another problem is that the video port emmits TEMPEST, the video cable (even the shielded ones) emmit radiation, and the power outlet that the display is plugged into emmits radiation.
The only real solution is to purchase certified TEMPEST equipment.
If you want real TEMPEST equipment, check out Hetra Secure Solutions (shameless plug) They sell all sorts of cool TEMPEST stuff, including rugged laptops and stuff. This is real TEMPEST equipment. They also sell TEMPEST moniters, printers, scanners, servers, you name it... You must be a US citizen to buy it though. =)
how can you claim that you are 100% microsoft free, when microsoft is a stock holder of apple??? maybe you don't use ms products/services, but you're not 100% free of microsoft (sucks doesn't it!!)..:)
I think this is genuine. I met this girl last year at Intel's International Science and Engineering Fair...As I recall, she had a 700 bit encryption method (or something) that was based on matrices. She won some of the bigger awards (the awards get large (i.e. $10,000+)).
If you search for the 1998 ISEF on intel's press release web page, you can see a couple pictures of her. I think she said her dad works for intel (I wonder if that played a role in her winning so much at intel's science fair).
