Have you ever considered the possibility that we don't want you to tell us what is good and what is not?
LOL Well, you started it:
-they are an axis of evil
-this one needs a new government
-this one can have an A-Bomb, this one cant
-this one has something we need lets take it
The US has no trouble telling the rest of the world what is right/wrong. Do you think your special or something?
Global population: 6 billion
USA Population: 250 million
Better get used to having other people around.
LOL I still can't figure out what mood you were in to actual desire non-americans to just go and die. Were you feeling playfull and funny, or stone cold serious? Why so sensitive to critisism?
Fiscally conservative and anti-socialized medicine don't necessarily go hand in hand if by conservative you mean less overall government spending.
The US Goverenment pays 44% of every dollar paid for health services which is lowers then most G8 countries. However, per capita spending in almost double those same countries. So your government is paying 44% of a pie that is twice as large as most others (per capita). If you had a single payer system like say, Canada, the percentage that is paid by the government will go up, but the total paid should go down and you'
ll save money. Ahem..not to mention you should be able to extend health care to all your citizens.
Or does 'fiscally conservatives' mean "I'm against the idea that someone might get a free ride, even if it means I save a bunch of money because of it" ?
I can't beleive people are trying to have a 'serious' discussion about such a silly subject. I can't really see a difference between christians, muslims, solarians, and tesla conspiracy theorists (the ones who think he invented time travel etc etc).
I would apologise for mocking or offending anyones faith but the rise of the US theoarcy prevents me. Where is the real silent majority? and why are they not preventing these doomsday cults from taking over their government?
This thread started as a discussion about values didn't it? So where is the enlighted conversation about when it is ok to put your own interest above your neighbours? god, christ, Allah, and Ganesha be damned they are not invited to the debate.
While I have a tendancy towards Libertarianism, and while I enjoyed the breivty and clarity in your plateform, I can't agree with all your statements.
spending only what is absolutely NECESSARY
So items in the "public good" will be funded but thats it. So its really just the simple matter of figureing out what is and isnt' in the public good. right?
No welfare, support for the unfortunate should be funded privately
Many of your items are grand in scale, but I think your welfare system accounts for only 1% of your overall budget so why bother when their are bigger fish to fry.
NO legislation of morality
While I agree in principal I still think drunk drivers should face very stiff penalties, much more then now. If you get pissed and run over my kid, the sense of vengance of seeeing you face a capital offense is going to be very cold comfort. Ditto for unlawful discharge of a firearm, etc. Don't call it morality call it "laws that protect us from idiots before the damage is done"
Public schools should not exist.
There are many countries were this is the case, you could always visit them to see the results just be sure to leave the gated enclaves so you can get the full picture. There is nothing like a permenant uneducated underclass to destroy a civil society.
To sign off on a postive note, I total agree with your position on same sex marriage. At one time government may have had an interest in populating the country and rewarding those who marry, these days I can't see any reason for government to be involved whatsoever. Rather then debate same sex marriage we should be redrafting legacy laws that make the definition of marriag important.
I use email addresses. A typical email address is more then twenty characters yet easy to remember. They don't have to be real email addresses but the format is one we have learned to remember.
Sometimes I'll use real email addresses then I can just associated a person or a group with a given system. Rotate through family email address for one system rotate through friend emails from another.
It works well for me.

I read an article a dozen years ago about the different ways that cell phones were marketed in the US and Japan. In the US mobile phones were pitched as executive devices and then trickled down, in Japan they were marketed to teenagers first.
If I learned my lesson from the article maybe I would created mySpace instead of all these truly useful sites for adults.:(
I disagree, I have been stunned a few times by the level of religousity of the US. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a morality play rather then a monetary one. After all, the US is being run by radical fundementalist christians isn't it?
So much talk about security vs privacy as if having enemies was a natural state of affiars. Sounds like the propagandists have already won they switched from "Reds" to "Rag Heads" without missing a beat.
How about a discussion about the role and reputation of the US in the international community for a change.
I am not a Constitutional expert but isn't there already limits on speech like the classic example of shouting fire in a movie theater? Heck many states limit the distributon of pornography, how is spreading false news protected by the constituion?
Or rather, Does the US have a law against spreading false news?
The other posts here about the fairness doctrine should put your doubts to rest.
Although I find the level religiosity it the US shocking I wouldn't have referred to the US as a theocracy until I read "American Theocracy" by Kevin Phillips. Here is a NYTimes article on it. http://tinyurl.com/fkwc2
Kevin Phillips is a respected Republican historian and this book is NOT a rambling rant from the left despite its title.
Without getting into a full review of the book he follows the life cycle of several empires; Spanish, Dutch, British, and USA.
He finds many similarities linking their rise to innovation based on new energy sources (wind, coal then oil).
(Spain being the exception being based on new world gold). Also a trend in financialization (Finance is now the single largest industry in the US as a percentage of GDP). In addition to his central thesis it is an excellent history of energy, US oil culture, US church history, and more, a very good read.
He also shows a trend in the rise of religion near the end of an empires life. Specifically a belief in the "end of days".
Its an excellent book with nearly a hundred citations per chapter, It is very well researched from a guy who has written a dozen books on American and Republican history. Don't let the title fool you its about a lot more then simply the rise in the Christian right.
When I first heard about Bush's faith based initiatives I thought they were limited to charity and other social care type programs.
I have learned however that it means appointing people who actively work to end separation of church and state.
People who put faith before fact, people who believe not only in the coming of Armageddon, but some who believe that christ has
returned and we are already in the end of days. It is truly shocking to learn that something around 25% of the US believes in Armageddon (literal), more shocking to learn that they are running your country!
As the most religous country in the world, and with the growing influence of Christians in your government, America has no credibility labeling others as religious radicals or fundamentalists.
Many scientists post on Slashdot, perhaps they can comment on the current state of affairs where faith has replaced fact and exploration in government policy.
There is a social norm about not talking about religion but perhaps that should change considering that you have chosen to elect a "doomsday cult".
It isn't a matter of free speech, its a social contract. Yes you have freedom to express your views but being a member of the "press" and broadcasting "News" provide certain rights that should be balanced by some simple rules like "not lying". Isn't their a rule that informercials have to have a disclaimer at the beginning to announce that they are paid advertising? Perhaps many of your news shows should have this disclaimer:
"The following program is paid propaganda brought to you by Philip Morris and the Southern Baptist Convention. Any resembelance to actual news is purly coincidental."
I thought you yanks got rid of all your news shows and replaced them with infotainment years ago. Wasn't it in the eighties during Reagan's time that a bill was passed that removed the requirment for NEWS programs to offer balanced reports and present opposing views. Once that pesky requirement was out of the way your News shows were alot more entertaining and a whole lot less informative.
Up here in Soviet Canuckistan our state run news on CBC seems allot more balanced then the slhock coming from your Theo-Coporatocracy.
I suppose there are a few outfits down there trying to deconstruct the propaganda http://www.fair.org/ for example.
Download speed and perceived speed are not the same thing. Here is a fantastic article from a group that does empirical research on these subjects.
http://www.uie.com/articles/download_time/
Nielson might want to refer to their site to see how simply, basic, text can be made more appealing then his. I am sure that his layout was designed specifically to get people to argue about it and thus up his profile. Or some such scheme.
-Always get a deposit
-Never sign a contract. Send invoices for each deliverable, and did I mention get a big deposit. I'd rather deal with getting stiffed for payment then to have to suffer through another contract negotiation. BTW: IANAL:)
-Dump bad clients fast! If you consistently get the feeling that they are wasting your time they probably are.
-Develop a portfolio of your own money making sites (advertising, subscriptions, sales or whatever) even a small amount of money will help during slow times. It may also help you understand the needs of your clients better as you try to market your site and deal with your customers.
-Be insanely ethical at all times. Clients don't understand many of the options you present them with. When your explaining something to them their eyes will glaze over. When those eyes suddenly clear, its because they are looking at you and deciding if they trust you enough to accept your recommended option. If you don't have the trust of your client you probably shouldn't be working for them. Of course having ethics is its own reward anyway:)
-Be insanely customer service oriented. Be as involved in their success as much or more then your own.
As for "development" teams I fortunately don't have to work on many anymore. The idea of having to go back and work on a team sounds as dreadful as the idea of having to date again. I am a freelancer with IT experience going back to my trash-80 days. My weakest area is style but after all these years even that is finally improving. I tried sub-contracting parts of projects and found that it really sucks for me. I spend too much time correcting work or nagging people and I hate it. I have friends who do very well putting together large teams of sub-contractors, but it just doesn't work for me.
After 7 years of freelancing I have managed to build a small group of regular clients who have a lot of trust in me. This makes all the difference. I don't have to waste all that time explaining things, I just tell them what I think we should do and we almost always do it. They are also willing to wait for me when I am in a busy spell and will even find work for me to do if things are slow. Building relationships like that should be job #1.
I would also advise getting a project manager. One of my clients effectively acts like an agent and project manager. He finds clients, pitches them, and deals with most of the meetings. I do one or two big projects a year with him and it is very satisfying. It took us a few years to get to where we are but now we work together very smoothly and we speed less time explaining things to each other which gives us both more time to be responsive to the client. The projects I do with him end up being some of my best work. (IMHO)
In summary,
-Freelance work rocks!
-Relationships are what matter most so pay attention to them.
-Get an agent if you can
The webmaster didn't read the Google instructions. If they placed their Analytics script at the bottom of the page just above as Google instructs them to, then their visitors would not have to wait before viewing the page.
Just another case of they shoulda RTFM.
So, I could pay $250 and get 100,000 PC's then compete with Sun as I rent out CPU hours for legit business:)
