Quite a profound statement indeed, maybe its similar to that theory about how our dreams have us run through real life scenarios while we're unconscious to better prepare us for events that may happen during the day based on prior events or knowledge.

However I have to wonder if there's a certain amount of time that is needed for it to make a difference. For instance if I play a respawn game of Call of Duty 4, you have only about 10 seconds before you come back to the action. However, in Search and destroy games where you spawn only at the start of each new round, you have minutes at times before the next round. some may find it boring, but its certainly more time for reflection.

I think we need to see more development towards other settings (not counting TabulaRasa, its basically the same as Orcs and Elves and all that mess). I always though Planetside was an interesting one that certainly could be improved upon for a decent MMO FPS experience.

Also now that the creator of FASA (Battletech/Shadowrun) has his IP back, maybe we can see a decent Battletech MMO, so long as its better than that one they tried several years ago that wasn't even really an MMO because you could only play 4v4.

The only other real potential coming up is the Bioware Star Wars MMO. Lets hope someone can do it right, I'm tired of swinging swords and fighting orcs!

certainly true, in my eyes Hybrid vehicles are the half baked solution towards going either hydrogen and/or all electric cars because they still rely on gasoline and their CO2 cost of producing the batteries is high as well. The thing is that those half baked solutions are often created to bridge the gap to the real solution. Sometimes though, the intermediate bridge just isn't good enough.

That sounds like an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" argument to me. Which in fine and good for simpler technologies, but can be disastrous for more modern technologies. Just think what would happen if you didn't change your car's oil until the car simply refused to run. What would happen if we all decided not to curb our oil consumption habits until we either ran completely out of oil reserves. You see its the shortsightedness that in the long run costs you WAY MORE than if you simply keep the options in mind and work towards a solution.

So in two years when they can't add any more addresses, the only ones to blame will be those who stuck they feet in the mud and wouldn't budge. Besides, they can always just start taking away all those spam sites that offer no real content and just distribute those to other who actually need them, I'm sure there's at least another 2 years worth of those.

I think you're failing to see the point the grandparent made about the fact that for most people its utterly unneccesary for a practical standpoint. I'd rather someone know about another peoples' culture than only being able to speak the culture's language, essentially being a complete tourist. Combine this with the fact that the best way to learn a new language is to actually use it somewhat regularly and be around other people who use it, otherwise you're going to get nowhere fast unless you have lots of time (not to mention money) to travel to those other countries to get a chance to use the newly procured language skills.

I myself am a programmer, so I can kindof relate to this. I have learned useful languages like C, Java, Python, PHP, SQL, HTML, but know why I haven't learned .NET, Ruby, Perl? Because I simply do not need it at this point (among other reasons), and I believe i will live just as full a life without learning it.
