When a suspect is arrested, they are guilty unless proven innocent, and once incarcerated, it's not a trip to the country club (albeit with Bubba in the shower and iron bars in the windows) -- it's sit on your knees on a concrete cell until you are allowed to move, then back on your knees again.
I am legal, and if they want some naked pictures of a fat man, I will hand them stuff from my portfolio personally. They don't need to try and trick me to get them
I'd say that the fuss is about equality under the law. If a private citizen goes about harvesting organs from cemeteries, they can expect to be penalized.

There is always the libertarian party - which is a party our Founding Fathers would most likely approve of (libertarianism is NOT about "anything goes" despite what many claim). However since they don't have a chance of being elected, I generally vote against the candidates most likely to beat the incumbents.
You, sir, have just demonstrated why you are the prime reason why "they don't have a chance of being elected".
The only thing stopping them from putting armor plating on it and turning it into power armor is the battery life of the suit.
It seems to me that this is the single most important limiting factor of mobile technology today, from laptops and smartphones to electric cars and exoskeletons.
If we manage to "solve" this one, a lot of cool stuff will follow.

In which case forwarding addresses would be illegal as well, since Aunt Milly has the reasonable expectation that her letter/package be delivered to the address written on it. Yet the postal services of many (all?) countries will gladly set it up for you for a specified duration.
I can set up a temporary forwarding service with Amazon to have the orders addressed to me shipped to a warehouse of their choosing, can I not?
Almost all shops accept returns of unopened items for store credit, even with "gift receipts" that do not state the price.
What Amazon intends to do is to streamline this return/exchange process by allowing the recipient to skip the physical delivery and return.
A simple checkbox stating something like "allow recipient to exchange gift before delivery takes place" should take care of the legalities.

What about a person who composes the greatest music and writes the greatest lyrics but can't perform worth crap? Is there no place for him (or her) in your new world?
If you want REAL change, how about we dump the two corrupt parties that got us into this mess. EVERYONE should vote third party. Don't worry about "throwing your vote away", because the two parties are the same, and things just keep getting worse the longer they stay in power.
While a lot of people do seem to understand that even if they get "their" bastard elected over the "other one" he will still screw them at every opportunity, the next logical step of not voting for either is unfortunately beyond most.
I'm not suggesting it's not possible to improve the Shuttle -- but that case has to be made in detail, not tossed off with an assumption that because it was designed in the 60s and built in the 70s there must be a far better idea
My examples above notwithstanding, there can be several reasons to use older technology even when newer and "better" ones are available. Cost is a major one. The old tech is often "good enough" for the purpose and a retrofit can be a very expensive proposition. Also, the new tech has to be rigorously tested to prove it to be as (or more) dependable as the old one. Limited budgets often mean that the funds, time and effort are better spent elsewhere.
Closing guantanamo bay turned out to be more difficult... where do all the prisoners go. Giving them trials is controversial and is causing debate. We can't set the actually dangerous ones free. Nobody wants them in their local prison... that would invite local terrorist acts... blah blah blah.
So let me understand. You have a president who made a promise to the nation to close Gitmo without realizing that there will be complications? Is he an ignorant moron? Or maybe he did realize it and did not intend to fulfill his promises from the beginning, in which case he's a manipulative liar. So which one is it? And why did you hand the presidency to a person exhibiting either of these fine qualities?
(And don't tell me that McCain was worse. There were other candidates you could have picked, it didn't have to be a choice between a giant douche and a turd sandwich).
Oh yes. And the headline next day would be that he supports the terrorists.
Wait, are you telling me that the president of the United States of America, ostensibly the most powerful person on the planet, the one that campaigned on a platform of "Hope and Change", is more concerned about tomorrow's headlines than about doing the right thing?
The (R) and (D) don't care about civil liberties. They pay lip service, but when push comes to shove, both sides are the same. Obama is just like Bush, Clinton, Bush before him. If you don't like the power of the Bush's but you like the power of Obama and Clinton (or visa versa) you're just a tool for those seeking more power.
And yet, 98.58% of the votes in the last US presidential election were cast for either Obama (D) or McCain (R).
Same here. It's better, faster, and less ad free than AVG, Avast, etc.
My experience differs. I replaced Avast 4 free with MSSE on an oldish AMD 3500+. MSSE often peaks with almost 100% CPU usage for several seconds when launching programs and sometimes just when browsing the net. It also often alerts on some popup.A or suchlike in FF's cache even though I have noscript engaged. Avast was significantly less intrusive.

Great, as a lawyer it's great to know that you're going to try and kill me for the actions taken by another lawyer who I don't know, have never met, and is handling a case that I would never take. You're also going to kill the lawyers who presumably tried to stop this from happening, the other side of the lawsuit.
Lawyers (and judges, politicians, etc. -- who are,or were, also lawyers) perpetuate the "pay for justice" system.
Yeah, because Harper's doing so much better. Oh wait, he's not.
You are right, of course, but so is the parent, and the grandparent.
You're so busy trying to prove that the other party is worse than "yours" that you're missing the simple truth: both major parties are bad for you. They are both evil, they are both corrupt, they will both fuck you over (and in fact have been doing it since time immemorial). Sure, one may be worse than the other, but they usually take turns.
(The above is true for both the US and Canada)
Remember that voting for the lesser evil is still voting for evil.
Vote NDP, bote Block, vote Green, vote Pirate, vote Marijuana Party... Hell, vote for the fucking Rhinoceros Party, but DO NOT VOTE FOR EITHER THE LIBERALS OR THE CONSERVATIVES out of fear that the wrong lizard might get in!

"I come in peace," it said, adding after a long moment of further grinding, "take me to your Lizard."
Ford Prefect, of course, had an explanation for this, as he sat with Arthur and watched the nonstop frenetic news reports on television, none of which had anything to say other than to record that the thing had done this amount of damage which was valued at that amount of billions of pounds and had killed this totally other number of people, and then say it again, because the robot was doing nothing more than standing there, swaying very slightly, and emitting short incomprehensible error messages.
"It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see..."
"You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?"
"No," said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, "nothing so simple. Nothing anything like to straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said ford. "It is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?"
"What?"
"I said," said Ford, with an increasing air of urgency creeping into his voice, "have you got any gin?"
"I'll look. Tell me about the lizards."
Ford shrugged again.
"Some people say that the lizards are the best thing that ever happened to them," he said. "They're completely wrong of course, completely and utterly wrong, but someone's got to say it."
Sorry but even the "good guys" have to do nasty things in order to save lives.
First they do nasty things to save lives. Then they do nasty things to hurt the "really bad guys". Then they relax the definition of "really bad guys", Then they do nasty things to help out their friends. Then they do nasty things to cover their asses. Then they do nasty things for profit. Yesand yes.
The wheel is a concept, not a "piece of tech" and I can think of at least one significant improvement that was made to its implementation.
Not necessarily. Although, like the wheel example above, the piston-engine has also undergone lots of incremental improvements, some of which became ubiquitous.
There are better alternatives
