"but if you're looking for recent releases to put under the tree and either can't afford or can't find a 360 to gift"
It may just be me, but it seems like the author of this article thinks I should have a 360 sitting in my cabinet!?!?!
Anyways, I was never a fan of SC or for that matter fighting games(Killer Instinct was the last game fighting game I really got into and that was in '96 with KI 2/Gold). I can proudly say I have never bought into the whole "The Sims" phenomenon. Civ IV looks interesting but I'm afraid my lappy, while it is only a year old and has a dedicated video card, could probably not handle it. Personally(besides Civ IV) I think there are a lot of better games to have come out since fall started. Guitar Hero, Dragon Quest VIII, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mario Kart DS, Wilds Arms: Alter Code F are just a few on my list. Of, let's not forget the remake of Final Fantasy IV on GBA, which I can't wait to pick that up and play between classes next semester.
I think I'll stick to what's in my PS2 ATM before I rush out to get any of these... Dragon Quest VIII for the win!
I spent last spring writing a 14 page paper on the symbolism present in.hack//(just the games), and I thought that was awesome. But if I could have written about WoW, which I was playing heavily at the time, that would have been a whole lot better.
I'm obviously going to the wrong school though. I had to my "video game" paper as an independent study, they have a course on this?!?!
As an avid Gamecube player, I obviously have no tastes according to this author. I currently own 7 out of the almost 35 games he listed. And out of the games he listed those are the only game I would ever want to own. I've had quite a few of the games in the article but quickly disposed of them due to a lack of interest in them or because I thought they were just plan horrible. There are a lot better games for the Gamecube than what is listed here. Examples... Mario Golf is an amazing golf game, quite probably the best on the system. Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy (which is multiplatform) is simply beautiful in design and gameplay. A venerable gem of the current console generation! Are they listed here... NO.
Until this was put up on/. I hadn't really noticed that 360 coverage had gone off the radar, but now that I thik about it I'm curious as to why? Those first few days after its release I couldn't turn on the TV or jump on a tech site without seeing a news blurb or article on how the Xbox360 PWNED all! Now, its like it's last years fad in some regards. M$ usually likes to boast about how great they are and how amazing everything they create is, but there being hush hush. Strange...
Oh well, time to go laugh at some early adoptors. I would feel sorry for them, but then I remember how much money some of them have spent on there new, high-quality paper weights!
I was under the impression that the next Smash has been in development for a while.
They annouced Smash Bros. for the Revolution when they showed off the mock up at E3. I'm just surprised Gamespot is just reporting the fact that Sakurai was coming back for the next Smash game. I heard about it on other sites atleast 2 weeks ago.
For example, for our next generation Wolfenstein game, which uses the Xbox 360 as it's primary development platform, we are developing technology that will change the way people play First Person games by doing away with the whole concept of 'levels', which has been the primary progression mechanic every first person game has used.
Sorry to quote this one more time, but WTF? Since when is getting rid of the concept of levels a new idea? I know someone said this already but did this guy not play Metroid Prime?
Unless he means giving people the abilty to freely roam an environment without limitations on where they can go based on items, this has been done already! With little or no load times on top of that. And, Retro Studios was able to do it a second time with MP2. They want to really innovate, let's see them do something with that is amazing gameplay wise. Let's see them hype up something other than load times, graphics or ragdoll physics like these companies do half the time. The Big N showed a demo to the press earlier this year of Metroid Prime 2 played with the Revolution controller. When it comes to an FPS, that is innovation and I can't wait to play Metroid Prime 3 becasue of it.
If I'm going to have to pay more for next generation titles because they are oh so superior graphically, then developers better damn well start pumping out games that have lasting appeal, better stories, and are fun to entice me to pay that extra $10. I can eat for a week on $10. I'm sure a lot of us can!
IMO, graphics can take a back seat. I'd rather pay 40 to 50 dollars for a game that keeps me coming back after that initial period of fierce gameplay, than for something that looks amazing that I end up only playing once!
..I can only say one thing: Sad. I am a gamer, my girlfriend is not. Does that get in the way of our relationship? No! If anythings, the simple problems we have come from a cultural difference. I'm American, she is Japanese(and very traditional at that).
If you don't like the fact the your significant other spend hours and hours quote "using a chunk of plastic and some cords to make a little guy on TV fight with other little guys on TV," why are you with him/her? Instead of wasting your time, find someone with the same interests as you!
