Yes, this COULD be a scheme to get your personal information. I consider this to be unlikely, however, because they're ALREADY WIRETAPPING THE ENTIRE FUCKING COUNTRY. Then don't even need a warrant, they just need "probably cause" and to fill out a 1 page form to get any and all of your data from any ISP in the USA.

They don't need some new sneaky plan to get your data, they already have it.

"if it looks like my contract, says "upto" a certain speed. Not a guarantee"

This is EXACTLY why the FCC is doing this in the first place. They're going to compare the advertised "up to" speed and see how often you can actually get that.

The problem with this test is that it only measures the speed for about 20 seconds. I have comcast which means "power boost" kicks in for about the first 30 seconds of your download, then you get normal speed, and then my speed seems to fucking tank on torrents after about 5-10 minutes sometimes.

Basically, everyone from comcast will score BETTER than advertised speeds because of the way the test is done despite the fact that comcast is complete shit.

They just have to look at the box and see if the packaging is appealing. You don't need functional equipment for that, you don't even need dead equipment for that, you just need something that looks like the product.

"You can't allege users that they download/upload copyrighted content based on that they use a lot of bandwidth"
No, but you can drop the users that actually use the bandwidth they pay for under the clause in the contract that says "ISP_name has full discression as to what constitutes "unacceptable behavior"". Most ISPs want to sell a shitload of "high speed" internet connections that aren't capable of sourcing even 1/10 of what's advertised when a moderate number of users are online.

Look at comcast's latest bullshit. If you use over 50% of your bandwidth and it's during a "time of high congestion" (again, as determined by comcast, not by actual evidence) then they will throttle you down to less than a 1/10 of your full speed. That's right. If you use half of what you pay for then you get less than a 1/10 of that. This happens for 15 minutes at a time, but there's no minimum period of full speed between these 15 minute periods of reduced speed.

Rollerblading, skateboarding, scooters (unpowered) aren't allowed on most public sidewalks. It certainly won't work in busy areas simply because there are too many people on the sidewalks.
Mopeds aren't alternative transportation because they're still a powered vehicle. Same goes for powered scooters.
A horse.... are you fucking serious? Might want to bring yourself up to date here because last time I checked there wasn't a hitching post in front of my bank/grocery store/etc.
Public transportation, if you don't live in DC or NY you're fucked there.
A cab costs a LOT of money and isn't a viable solution.

A car IS a necessity depending on where you live. You CANNOT always choose where you live. Maybe you have that luxury but most Americans don't, especially not in this economy. If your company tells you that it's either move to Texas or find a new job, you're moving to Texas because THERE ARE NO OTHER JOBS. If your job moves or the only job you can find requires that you move somewhere then you do not have that ability to choose where you live.

Just because "your boss" and you managed to live without a car over the last 50 years doesn't mean it's a practical choice for EVERYONE ELSE in the current century.

I'm not saying that it isn't dangerous, I'm saying that having a seizure is one hell of a lot MORE dangerous than using a cell phone.

Yes, there are other reckless drivers that need to have their license revoked but don't have some medical condition (like seizures) that make it easy to do this. But that does NOT mean that people with seizures should be allowed to drive. The problem is that public transportation sucks everywhere in the entire united states except for NY and Washington DC. It isn't like we can just rearrange a freaking city and people are NEVER going to allow a tax increase to build public transportation, so we're stuck with cars.
