  6. result of abuse on A Majority Of Millennials Now Reject Capitalism, Poll Shows (washingtonpost.com) · · Score: 5, Insightful

Capitalism can mean different things to different people, and the newest generation of voters is frustrated with the status quo, broadly speaking.

    can you blame them?

    * the two party political system is really just one party with caveats
    * their voice in the election has been snuffed out by super delegates
    * laws are purchased via bribes aka "campaign donations"
    * billions are being funneled into government defense contracts that we don't need
    * taxes are being used to subsidise the fossil fuel companies that are destroying the planet
    * they are being enslaved by hoisting debt on them before they even get out of college
    * a whole lot of bankers just stomped on the global economy and were then bailed out of a problem they created
    * multibillion dollar companies dodging paying billions in taxes
    * H-1B fellows are being used to replace them in the workforce
    * 0.01% of the population has 40% of the total wealth

this isn't a favorable outcome for anyone but aging psychopaths, so it's understandable that they are unhappy.

  8. not entirely wrong on Apple Is Outdated, Says Chinese Conglomerate LeEco CEO (cnbc.com) · · Score: 4, Interesting

Mr. Yueting isn't wrong when he says "having separate apps just means great obstacles in the user experience" or when he writes says that "CPUs and the mobile network speeds" a sufficient for integrated systems. however, he is wrong when he implied that this design was only good for "the first generation of mobile net" because he has not mentioned perhaps the largest and most fundamental issue with third party software: security. right now, smartphone security is still arguably an oxymoron and unless you rectify the situation, you are going to have a fully integrated system of fully compromised software.

when it comes to "smart" technologies, currently, the only winning move is not to play.

  10. “At low temperatures, this tunneling water exhibits quantum motion through the separating potential walls, which is forbidden in the classical world,” said lead author Alexander Kolesnikov of ORNL’s Chemical and Engineering Materials Division. “This means that the oxygen and hydrogen atoms of the water molecule are ‘delocalized’ and therefore simultaneously present in all six symmetrically equivalent positions in the channel at the same time. It’s one of those phenomena that only occur in quantum mechanics and has no parallel in our everyday experience.”

From my simplistic understanding of quantum mechanics, this means the atoms weren't "observing" each other and therefore had probabilistic locations. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  12. Commuting to work alone in a vehicle is a waste of resources, no matter what energy source is powering it.

you speak as if a person's time is unlimited. a car that recharges using sunlight (an otherwise wasted resource) also conserves your time. life isn't perfectly scheduled and that's how mass transit operates which means you end up wasting time just waiting for your transport to arrive.

  14. Well, this European here does not own a car, because there is well-working, reliable and safe public transportation here. Silly Americans probably do not even know what that means or think public transportation is only for the poor.

Public transportation limits when and where you can go and takes significantly longer to get there. It also has the benefit of exposing you to an absurd amount of germs. If you haven't been to the United States, it's gigantic so that puts limits on what type of public transportation system you can have without a cripplingly large annual investment.

The solution isn't slinging jingoistic insults, it's renewable energy sources and EVs.
