Be lucky you are close enough to an exchange. Out here I am limited to ADSL 'Max' as they call it, the 'Up to 8MB' thing. Of course, I get about 2MB. Our local exchange is going under an LLU soon, so I can only hope it'll improve, but I reserve my right to doubt. I think the only time we will see a good ISP is if a load of P2Pers/Geeks or whatever set one up with the purpose of providing a really good service.

Exactly. Thank you. The ISPs should pay. They are the ones providing the service: Etiher reduce the service you are selling to what you can actually handle, or upgrade the lines so you can sell the higher rate.

It's ridiculous, This is like a hotel overbooking rooms because people don't turn up, then telling the people staying in the rooms they have to pay to have the rooms built so they can give them the service. No.

Because on Slashdot, more people actually read up and check the facts, rather than taking what they are told, and by the media, no less, as the truth on an issue. Global warming is happening. We are running out of fossil fuels. We should be switching to alternate power sources. Is human activity the cause of Global Warming? No. The fact of the matter is that as temperature increases, CO2 increases - not the other way around. The biggest store of CO2 is in the oceans, dissolved in the water. When the climate gets hotter, the oceans get hotter, water evaporates, and CO2 is released into the atmosphere. The media has the correlation the wrong way round.

Much like Zero Punctuation or for the more adventurous, Encyclopedia Dramatica. Recently there was a petition signed by many on the UK Government's website for Clarkson to become prime minister - everyone likes the guy. He always does the thing deep down we all want to do - the stupid thing that seems the most fun(ny).
