Does that people buried in the next few years will be missing a finger or two? How would this affect 'rare' DVD's and their value in the future?
I must now include in my Will "And to my children I leave my 800 DVD video collection with my index finger and left eye for access".
How soon until they inject a movie into my brain cells so that my brain must be kept alive to view the last available copy of "The Planet of the Apes part 8"
I test drove the petrol fortwo at the 2004 StarFest. I thought it had a strange feel to it but was stable, quick and comfortable. I used to drive a 78 Mercedes 240d. Although that may have been more safe in size, I had worse acceleration than any of the smart cars. And the 240d only gets around 26-29mpg on the highway. All the pain and no gain is a 240D.
I really liked the amount of interior space on the fortwo and would not mind driving it. I do not think it is any less save than a civic or aveo. Less car is less car and there are a lot of small cars that could be more crushed easier than a smart car.
And they do not make many motorcycles that get near 60mpg. Most harley's get around 40, non 650cc BMW's get around 40-50, etc.
If you are just going to buy a deathbox anyway, (such as a civic, aveo, or echo) , and only need 2 seats, you may as well get the best efficiency you can.
My co-worker calls it the 'egg' and we joke about making it a lawn mower.
It's good to hear the general theories on why games aren't selling for linux, but only a few of you can give a worthwhile reason. Some of you can't even speak for yourselves, let alone for the masses. I saw a few great posts though.
I bought Loki's Civ game and I liked it. I enjoyed Team Fortress on Quake1 for windows, but after Quake 2 didn't have TF for free, I basically haven't really given a rip about Quake anymore. Maybe if they started by porting some GOOD games to linux, like Thief and Thief II, the Sim games and such, linux users would have something to buy.
However, Id has the right idea, despite the fact they continually come out with the same style games. Quake was really done well, with the possibilty of the public creating mods, maps, models, etc. I think if any game wants to sell to users from the linux community, it should have these kinds of features and expandibility at the base. Some of us, who run linux, actually like poking at stuff as much as using it. Driver support is still a huge issue, as well. This is mostly due to hardware manufacturers not giving out their specs, though, I think.
network failure should be handled by network HW
on
Linux Failover?

· Score: 3
If a network node goes down, it's better if network equipment handles the failover. The server should only handle the failover if the network hardware is incapable of doing so. The server is the weakest part of the network, so you want as little as possible depending on the server.
Say you have a machine with two dual port NICs or even two NICs. Have a script that checks the main network interface every ten seconds. If the main interface becomes unavailable, unload it and load the second interface with the same IP and reset all of your routing information.
If you have a server with that kind of "need" then maybe you should consider having a better routing setup altogether. Consider how www.netscape.com will actually resolve to several IP addresses. The options are numerous. The main issue, is that linux works just fine. (Although freebsd has sexier networking)
I doubt porting OLD games would be successful. I wore out my interest in Diablo and Warcraft so long ago I can't even remember who was president! Just kidding...it was only 2 years ago. And Diablo II wasn't even a consideration, since I thought Diablo I was pointless. The "engine" and way it played were awesome, but it was like almost completely in the dungeon and the plot was the same almost the entire way through.
Personally, a lot of games suck. Warcraft really was good, but it's old and other games have copied it's idea so many times I can't even bare to play them. I bought Civ:CTP from Loki, and I played it for a few days. But I probably won't buy Quake 3. I bought Q3 for Windows, and honestly, I played for 10 minutes and it's boring. TeamFortress was what made Quake1 so great, and that it was free. Deathmatch is just dumb.
I would rather see some GPL games come straight from the linux community for linux. I have caught a glimpse of Golgotha on http://www.golgotha.org/ but I couldn't tell what they were really up to. =) The real question is: "Can you make a game GPL and it be successful like linux, or will the same idiots that post asinine things about natalie portman spend their worthless lives exploiting those games with things like the modified Quake1 clients?"
And for those of you who post the most useless posts here, you will get a standing ovation someday. Unfortunately for you, it will be at your funeral.
I don't think you want to download 3.9.17 yet. I am 'running' 3.9.16 and it works fine. I even use the GLX extensions a little, but QUake3 is choppy and doesn't make use of my TNT card yet.
3.9.17 is missing Imakefile in the xc/doc directory, has an incomplete font source tree, and has less documentation than 3.9.16. It appears to be an incomplete snapshot. I am sure they will put up the rest of it later. P.S. It won't really build.
If anyone hasn't noticed, Microsoft has also been working on it's own portable document format, which they conveniently call something else - Microsoft Reader with Cleartype
I see M$ going after the PDF format next year.
I am sure a great running linux version of the reader will be available from M$ as well. =)
Two things are sure - there will always be poor people, and there will always be people screwed by corporate america, whether M$ is getting screwed, employees or customers. Software won't be pirated when Hell freezes over and there isn't a poor person in the universe. And yes, piracy is wrong.
I use FreeBSD mainly - I own everything I use. I even buy the FONTS I use.(and that gets expensive) The RSA licensing is a problem for me..I would like to be able to have some security. Isn't it against my constitutional right to restrict me from having the privacy RSA would help to be?
It's not suprising that it has the "Disney" corporation associated with the story. Disney is notorious, (from books like "Disney: the mouse betrayed", articles, and radio talks), for having child offenders as employees who, ironically, have direct contact with children. Heck, I think of child offenders when I hear of Disney so much that I forget about Mickey!
Could it be that Naughton got along well with Disney executives because they share the same hobbies and interests? Disney[World|Land] is still a nice place to vacation, even if they have their own police force and may not be controlled by local government or laws.
Be kind to the children, it's not easy being a kid these days.
You might want to check out MicroTouch. I know that at least at one point they had drivers available for various unixes, but I've only had the unfortunate opportunity of using them with windows. On windows, the touch screen basically sent mouse events to the OS.

I test drove one and found neither to be true. It was suprisingly solid.

I saw this mp3 player last October on their website. I thought it was selling at that time, or did it just get put on the market?

It would be rather amusing if they managed to create one and it started sucking down everything we know. That would rock.
