Let me shed some light on dell computers, and more specifically the xps series as a dell rep. The XPS series is not intended for those people (like the man in the video) to work on articles on a bus station, ITS A GAMING RIG. The XPS series is intended for users who are into intense gaming/graphical design/any other field that would require a strong cpu. Hence the the dual cores most come with standard. And the larger HDD's compared to the latitude and inspiron series. HENCE THE 20 INCH SCREEN. Thanks for taking yet another article out context /. This was about as silly as the one Zook put up yesterday.

Im not sure how I feel about jumping on the 'lets bash lawyers cause they are ruining America' bandwagon. Lets remember that lawyers are in abundance because of the demand. If America (yes, im American, so dont go off on a euro vs us tangent) wasnt so damn messed up, we wouldnt have as many law firms as gas stations.

    ^^This is what gets me.

This whole 'foreign countries are mud holes' theory that people like you in the US (you're in Cali, i did a little digging) share.

I am from Nigeria, and sorry to dismay your lively opinion of Nigeria and the other countries, but I did not live in a tent, hut, nor was my house supported with bamboo sticks.

I have been to Brazil and Argentina and it is the same as it is here in America, several cities bursting with industrial, urban life, and yes like a few places here in America (Central plains, deep south) ther are places that missed the technology bandwagon and could use all the cheap technology they can get (there are a lot of elementary school in the south that have no computers). My point being these are not third world countries, they are first world.

But back to the thread's main focus, this will be an ideal kick in these countries behind to help them catch up to European and Western countries. If 4 million computers can produce just one more person who can go to college and stand on his feet, then everyone wins.

"What if civil engineers built bridges the way developers write code?" she asked. "What would happen is that you would get the blue bridge of death appearing on your highway in the morning."

Im sorry, but there are crazy people scanning my highway for open ports and i dont see script kiddies pinging my roads. Graffati aside, they are left alone. Code that is written works just fine if people dont try to over flow buffers and install rootkits. The bridge I see out of my window is fine because people dont hit it with sledge hammers.

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice gesture and ulimately this is a positive in a lot of different lights, but so wrong in other ways. How about getting regular computers, there are some middle and elementary schools that share a few computers between the hundreds of students, if any at all. And dont even get me started on how my rural area schoolchildren are yet to see a computer until their latter high school years. Again, great thought, but its too ahead of our time.

If I am doing 80 on the highway and im pulled over, Im still given the ticket regardless if I knew the speed limit was 70 or not (well that and because im black, but lets not go there). And if I were to challenge the ticket, and it was shown in court that I had extensive knowledge of state speed limits or whatever, it would further screw my chances of getting off of the hook.
