I work at The Source (Read: Radio Shack in Canada) and haate doing that. I've never asked for anyones phone number and all that crap unless they are buying a high priced item, it just makes tracking their reciept down easier in the event that they've lost it and need warrenty/extended warrenty work done. If you're just buying a pack of freakin' batteries, I'm not going to go through all that crap.

  3. Re:PSP = Bad Comparison on PlayStation 3 May Play Too Much · · Score: 1

I fully agree with you, and for that matter, completely regret buying my PSP. Sure there are a few nice features that still keep me turning it on everyday, such as the fact it plays mp3's. Ok, so that's the only reason. Other than that, I own Wipeout and GTA:LCS for it. I rarely play the games because I can find the same titles on my xbox/ps2, and they are generally more fun to play, have sharper graphics, and can be viewed on a much, much larger screen. There is very little ingenuity in the gaming industry any more. Most games come out cross platform now and most of them happen to be sequels to some other sequel anyways. There's very few games that grab the attention of me any more. I think it was around the era of the N64 and the PSX where I stopped being interested by most games, the PS2 had a lot to offer, and subsequently I have a large collection of games for it. But the xbox offered pretty much the same stuff, with better graphics and a couple better features or something. I'm not going to buy a game twice because a couple months later someone decided to make a few extra bucks and market it to another console. Everything is a sequel now, there needs to be more effort put into new, original games if someone expects me to shell out 60/70 dollars for it.

I had a Powerbook Wallstreet do a similar thing. Every time the batteries died, the open firmware would reset. Seeing as there had been a few upgrades done on the machine, the machine wouldn't boot, because it would be searching for a different hard drive. The fix was re-install OSX, a total pain in the ass. It's sick when you have to tell your teacher you'll be late for class because your install isn't done yet.

Sony used to make a similar product years ago. I don't know if they still do, but of the CDs I used to burn on my old 2x HP burner.. they've stood up the best so far. If you want your data to last, don't cheap out on CD's. FujiFilm is the best brand I've used lately, as Sony no longer makes the "gold" series, and if they do, they aren't selling them where I am.

Indeed the story of Leela and Fry was quite emotional and indeed sad! But, at the end of The Devils Hands are Idle Playthings, we are led to believe they eventually did get together (without a diamond scrunchie I might add.) In Jurassic Bark, we find out Seymour waited YEARS for Fry to come back, until finally giving up and lowering his head and closing his eyes one last time. Though I guess that doesn't explain how he was fossilized standing up... We also learn Bender is 40% Dolomite, thus making him 150% of bending greatness. (40% Titanium - A head in the Polls, the aforementioned 40% Dolomite - Jurassic Bark, 30% Iron - 30% Iron Chef, and finally 40% Zinc from Fry and the Slurm Factory. However, Bender mentions he's not a good calculator in the episode The Cyber House Rules... which is impossible, because when he meets Flexo in The Lesser of Two Evils, he's able to determine that both he and Flexo's serial numbers are expressible by the sum of two cubes) ... I'm going to bed now, clearly I've looked too far into this.

You've absolutely hit the nail on the head. I used to live (aswel as attend school) in a small town where... erm, the general population was as confused about anything beyond farming as Fry was when he witnessed his first game of Blurnsball. A friend of mine and I used to spend our spares in the "cafeteria" watching Futurama and just talking about whatever. Sometimes a few people would join us in watching Futurama and at every nerdy joke, or technical joke, or anything above and beyond the mainstream there failed to be anything out of them. Not even a snicker. Of course they got the slap stick side of it. If Fry got hit, burned by eating Bender's sterno-nicoise, or if Kif was forced to look up Brannigans, uhh skirt? Or if Kif falls off the roof after an Amazonian pokes at him.. They laugh. There were even people who called us losers for watching Futurama, because it wasn't funny. Regular people couldn't see the true hilarity of it. Part of me wishes new episodes would go straight to DVD instead of being aired on tv. No one can screw around with their timeslots then, those that truly appreciate the series will be able to watch them over and over again with no worry about a football game taking valuable Futurama-Time. I dunno, I'm kinda off on a tangent here. Fact is you've got it completely right, the humour is just too intelligent for the mainstream. Kind of saddening, isn't it.

I work for Staples in a small city in Canada, we go through the trouble to photocopy the front and back of each new pocketable product over about 80 bucks (CAD) that tends to walk out the door. That means all flash media cards, all usb drives, ten packs of dual layer DVD's, things like that... Why? So we can stick the photocopies of the products in little plastic Alpha Boxes. Wastes about ten to fifteen minutes PER CUSTOMER everytime one of the employee's has to call a manager to get let into our lockup. It's to the point where some customers just walk away after hearing I have to go get them the product they figured would take two minutes tops to purchase. It's not only an annoyance for them, but for employees too; especially when it gets busy :\. Besides people just end up stealing more of the product under $80CAD so it doesn't really stop anything.

Oh, and my bosses call loss/damaged product/ect shrinkage as well :P
