I will defintely be purchasing one. Retro gaming, linux, sexy looking machine to accent my living room. I've been pretty much disappointed by nintendo since the release of the cube, however I do have hopes for this console based on what's been stated. Hopefully it actually does run linux, because the pay-for-download retro games will probably just be roms :). I can think of a few good emulators for linux, if not, I'm sure there's a way to get the wii software to load the roms :D.. at least, will be a way.

It's a sad sad day when taking a kids cell phone away is considered abuse. I remember when people got a cell phone because they needed a means of communication while out of the office. Now it's a fashion statement and I'm stuck selling them to 11 year olds, seriously... When I was 11, i wanted legos, and feared coming home with a bad report card, cause that was a sure way of getting "repremanded." Now, an 11 year old throws a hissy fit until he or she gets her way, gets their cell phone of choice (that mommy or daddy are signing for)and starts sucking up to their parents. I get to stand idly by as these kids manipulate their parents and get no sort of punishment for it. If you ask me, THAT is child abuse. These kids are going to grow up thinking that all they have to do is whine to get their way in life. The parents actions are setting them up for a really harsh learning curve later in life.

Actually, it's more for the geek value of having a mac in my car ;). I personally think the idea of having a movie on while you are driving, is just a little stupid :P. While driving it would be used for nothing more than music, eyes should be focused on the road. That's why the idea of a large HDD is most appealing, I hate pulling over to change cd's and what not, just hitting "next" through 15 thousand songs is much more ideal. So why not an ipod or something? Not as integrated, requires use of an fm transmitter (horrible sounding..) or an ugly cable that cannot be hidden as well as a completely stuffed away mac mini. The mini does it all, doesn't take up a lot of space, and adds a certain flair no one else has, would be perfect for show purposes if you're into that sort of thing.

Actually, this is a perfect display for what I had planned for just that. An in car media center powered by a mac mini :). I was saddened by the fact I would have to butcher some crappy "portable dvd player" and use a DVI to S-video adapter to do it half assed, and subsequently gave up on it. I may just be able to do it after all :D. It's so perfect, remote included, iTunes visuals for the eyecandy, mobile web and what not through wifi! Add more songs/videos from your driveway! And it all stashes under the passenger seat :)

Just a heads up, but say good bye to "unlimited" it's now hardcapped at 250mb on their plan rate sheets :), but one gig of transfer is coming soon, all for just 150 dollars a month! Their "unlimited" service was technically always capped at 250 megs, depending on how far you went over is whether or not they'd try and bone you for the extra data transfer.

Just another side note, a guy came into the store I work in (The Source, Telus Mobility Dealer) And he had purchased a new Kyocera card (reportedly faster than the Sierra EvDO card) and went on a three year contract. Now, you may not know this, but you have 7 days from the day of activation to cancel all terms on your contract, without penalty. He came back in three days later, used over 500mb already, and said "I just can't afford this." So we get ready to cancel it for him, and Telus tells us he has to pay for the data usage, pay the cancelation fee, and pay the cancellation fee of 200 bucks. Totally violated their own terms... Telus is a bunch of whores when it comes to data :\

I'll stick to picking my wifi targest instead, sure it's not as mobile.. but a hell of a lot cheaper.

This is pretty much the same in the tech centers at staples: the business depot. I used to work in there, and it was a common practice to be told to load a burned copy of windows 98 on a machine, or use a serial key from another copy of windows xp just to speed things up. It apparently is too much time to tell the customer they need to purchse/bring in their own copy of windows.Management more or less just said (of course without using these terms) "If you don't have the program, find a copy. If the trial of a program has run out, crack it. We can't afford to buy you the software you need, we can't afford the time it will take you to tell the customers the proper way to do things." Big business doesn't really care about their employees needs when doing the proper job, or their customers having proper copies of software. It really says something about how much they really cared about their customers and employees. All of them seemed expendable. I have since quit.

Because it's made by good ol' MS, it will be riddled with battery sucking DRM. Oh, and my giant OGG collection will be useless, as will my mp3s I'd imagine. Even then I'd have to find a way to get it to sync with linux, because it definitely won't act like an external HDD or a piece of flash memory. Then I'd have to get windohs media player to run, because that would probably be the only way to get music (probably converted to .wma on the way) ON to the unit. So all in all, it will be a great fiasco with VMWare or a native install of XP. Even still, I'd rather just have the option of sticking a 1gb SD card in my card reader, loading it up with what I desire, putting it in my mp3 player (THAT ONLY PLAYS MUSIC!) and then going. I don't care if my hand held game console doesn't play music. If I want to listen to music, I'll use a device souly made for that purpose and get a better experience anyways. Gaming devices and media devices shouldn't be stuck in the same unit. It hinders performance, battery life, and possibly proper use because it's just more crap to go wrong with it.
