WoW supports casual playing and is well polished. That's its key to success. There's no *real* reason why an MMO needs to seek the numbers that WoW has in terms of population. EVE is anything but a casual MMO and seems to manage a profit.
I don't *really* get how they could compete. CNBC is already fully staffed with market cheerleaders, "free market conservatives", and amoral trading shows (not that I necessarily think those things are bad).
It *would* be pretty funny if they created a network that was based on "values investing", or better yet, "socially responsible" investing. Would really show in a brighter light how FOX isn't news, just entertainment for the neo-con crowd.
I mean, software might be available in RPM format, but then you have to hunt dependencies yourself.
This hasn't been true if you stick to the official repositories for any major distribution for a while now. Granted, if you wander off into the wilds and just start installing rpm's you found on sourceforge, you might start having some work on your hands, but I haven't stumbled into RPM hell myself for quite a while.
YMMV (and keep in mind that.0 on any dist release is just askin' for trouble)
Actually parent is right. There were no rape report from anyone. Who are the alleged victims? Do they testify against someone?
As such, your response, by its very existence coupled with the extremely aggressive nature of your phrasing, is an obvious attempt to discourage discussion. People who genuinely are interestRelax, it's a valid question. There's all sorts of angles to be discussed on this topic (not the least of which is the fascination discussion around the actual origins of consent and rape laws).
But, sadly, I have a feeling you're not the type that is able to set aside their emotions and have a rational discussion on this topic. Don't feel bad, though, there's plenty of knee-jerk reactionaries in this world that will keep you company.
Couple things, first off, I'm not the same person you originally replied to, so, you're already off on a skewed rant.
Secondly, you should really do some reading on the pros and cons of statutory prosecution, which you're supporting in your post. There's some upsides and some downsides to the idea that a State has no choice in prosecuting a case, regardless of the circumstances or if a crime has even been reported. A frequent mass-media example of this is statutory rape, where even if a reasonable person could conclude that a 19 and 17 year old consented, the State is obliged to charge the 19 year old with rape (excepting in those cases the jurisdictions with variants on the "Romeo and Juliet" laws).
Yes, I realize there's a difference between a 4 year old and a 19 year old, but your attitude prevents the discussion that perhaps, just perhaps, the legal system isn't perfect in its codification of modern moral codes.
My main issue is with the attitude behind this sort of statement:
You're a fucking ~brain~. Do you have a newsletter I could subscribe to that could enlighten me to the expanded worldview where pictures of child molestation occupies a place in some moral gray area?
The intent here is to intimidate and discourage discussion, not to actually understand or learn about variants to your opinion. It's no different than someone who is a staunch capitalist hurling epithets at someone who wants to discuss socialism.
Look, I realize that crimes in the category of "against children" turn people, yourself included, into raving lunatics who are incapable of civil discourse on the matter. It's biology, really. We're predisposed to protect offspring, and society has codified that protection of offspring into a body of laws, some of which are useful and some of which are not.
However, that doesn't excuse you from attempting to be an intimidating asshole any time someone suggests that perhaps, just perhaps, the a State prosecuting statutory crimes (wherein a victim has not made an allegation) is a questionably valid thing for a State to be doing.
Gee, I can't imagine why groups like Perverted Justice are considered to be nutjob vigilante groups, what with elegant and well-tempered responses such as yours.
Why is that? Oh that's right, because they (and you, apparently) can't deal with even the slightest intellectual variance to their worldview, and react with kneejerk mindless emotions when it's even suggested that their worldview is perhaps not Gods Own Truth.
Religious zealots don't get a free pass when it comes to having their view of reality challenged, why should your outlook on reality be exempted?
Oh right, cuz it's For The Children. Yeah, that's never fucked anything up.
Flattening usually refers to losing layer information in a multilayer image file (it becomes "flat" instead of a stack of image layers). It's possible the shapes you're drawing are on their own layer (or are a vector art layer), and so when you export to a graphics format that doesn't support layers (gif, jpg, png, tiff,et al) it warns you.
Likewise, if it doesn't warn you, I'd be worried the layer information was being preserved.
It's odd because usually when one phase is over, they move over to another phase by introducing new players from alternate sources. Completely turning off a beta for a few months is unusual.
Science tells us that Pi is 3.14159... Religion tells us WHY Pi is 3.14159...
No, religion makes up a reason why Pi might be 3.14159... which may or may not have internally consistent logic, but is also unfalsifiable, therefore having no useful value to someone who looks for "Truth".
Do you really believe that 1st century oppressed people who had been consistently governed by a variety of ruling classes who had their power rooted in religion are unlikely to be convinced that some fairly charismatic man was a savior from on high, there to rescue them from the oppression of (yet another) foreign power in their lands?
Add that to the fact that it was only 12 guys, and they didn't even kill themselves! We have morons on a daily basis blowing themselves up on the promise of eternal bliss.
Humans are pretty easily led, your argument is not persuasive.
In Half-Life I really enjoyed watching those occasional scenes where monsters are wondering around doing things; like when the bullsquids feed on the headcrabs. I wish there were more things like that, things worth watching.
For all the guff that Tabula Rasa is getting, this one one of the things that (to me) made the world seem more dynamic and lived in. The worlds you play on are active battlefields with reasonably intelligent good and evil mobs that are jocking for tactical and strategic advantages. The "bad" mobs arrive in dropships in actual squads of various types, and will patrol/hunt through areas for "good" mobs (including the player). A lot of people don't seem to like TR very much, but this was a great idea, to me.
Surround is indeed kinda gimicky, but when its used right it can be pretty impressive. In the theater, I remember seeing The 13th Warrior and the audio mix of the arrows being fired and landing all around you in certain battle scenes really aided the feeling of immersion in the scene.
The wood used for the just body is probably far superior in even a $600 than a Target cheapo guitar. Though man have low-end guitars come far in the last 10 years.
Ghastly posts to his blog and to WebComics Nation every now and then. He's allegedly getting his life back together and plans to start producing comics again Real Soon Now(tm).
A man with cybernetic limbs shoots and kills a woman. During the court trials, his defense lawyer (highly experienced with defending people with cybernetic prosthetics) says that the defendant wasn't used to his newly upgraded/installed cybernetic body parts (and the new control software for them) and thus fired the gun unintentionally.
I haven't seen that episode but let me guess... It turned out that his arm was actually hacked by another Section in order to kill the woman for various political reasons with various political ramifications that are explained through fifteen minutes of exposition while Sec 9 drives around town?
I kid, much love for GitS, but the show is often -way- too true to the more obnoxious parts of Shiro Masumune's writing style.:)
The episode is actually a hybrid/new one based on Motoko's trial in the original manga. In this case, the defense lawyer was using the offender's cybernetic parts and the S9 "defendant"'s lack of cybernetics (in Stand Alone Complex, Tosuga has no cybernetics other than his cyberbrain, which seems to be different than in the origina manga) to prove that Tosuga deliberately sought to harm and discriminate against the offender in his alleged use of excessive force to detain the offender. It's actually a rather good episode, but one of the less action oriented aside from the teaser section that sets up the plot, and as an aside, I think is the only time they really even mention ghost keys more than passingly in the SAC series of episodes.
There's certainly plenty of quests once you get into the teens and beyond, but the intro areas (particularly around goldshire and what not) leave a weird gap ~lvl 7 and 8 until 10 depending on the character you play. After that it's pretty good except for when you get to STV and have to avoid the bored 70's ganking the 30-40 set.

If "most companies don't do it that way", by definition it's unusual.

You didn't play it far enough into the game, honestly. The fighting and patrolling becomes more obvious as you progress through the game.

I actually stopped watching it because it was often just so tedious. Was this some sort of Borg origin story?
